Leave it to @badgalriri to shake up the beauty world (again). As if slaying makeup junkies worldwide with the epic launch of Fenty Beauty weren’t enough, Rihanna’s following up a mere two weeks later with teasers for Galaxy, an upcoming holiday collection that’ll have you wanting everything.

While Rihanna covered the full basics (and then some) with her OG Fenty Beauty launch, the Galaxy collection packs a whole other game with a 14-colour metallic eyeshadow palette, fun lippies and glosses, and liquid liner, all wrapped in gorgeous rainbow-hued packaging. And judging by the fun yet wearable shades on the intricately-designed eyeshadow palette, Riri’s totally living up to her belief that “makeup is there for you to have fun with”.

Presumably, beauty junkies worldwide went nuts (we can’t blame them), taking to Twitter to express some LOL-worthy reactions.

Trust us, we descended into a similar frenzy when we learned about Galaxy too.

The Galaxy collection is slated for release on 13 October (Friday) at Sephora stores worldwide – which is a tad early for the holidays. But with a collection as versatile as this one looks, you’ll be wearing the holiday edition Fenty Face all year round.

Are you a Fenty Face addict? What will you be grabbing from the Galaxy Collection when it drops? Tell us your picks in the comment section!

6 Basic Brow Tips From Benefit's Brow Experts

21 Sep 2017 by Johanna Teo

Up your brow game from ‘fleek’ to ‘fierce’ with these handy tips from brow experts Jared Bailey and Rochelle Paz of Benefit Cosmetics!

#1: The Perfect Brow Is One That Flatters Your Face

Whether it’s straight Korean brows or perfectly lined Instagram arches, some trends are not universally flattering. “I think the perfect brow is different on every face. It’s a brow that flatters people’s features and doesn’t overpower it,” Jared shares, “The brows should never be the big, focal point of the face. It should serve to accentuate the natural curvature of the face.”

#2 You Can Use Makeup To Change The Shape Of Your Brows

“If you don’t like the shape of your brows, that’s what makeup is for right? I wouldn’t suggest altering that natural shape but you can go to a brow bar to help enhance that natural shape, to clean up outlying hairs, hairs that bring your eye shape down, and hairs that are really distracting to your brow shape.” Jared continues, “You can either enhance your brow shape with a pencil or add strokes to bring them closer together, or even take a cream to extend the link of your brows. I always encourage people – that if there’s something you don’t like about it, don’t try to do something permanent. Do something fun.”

#3 Switch Up Your Brow Tools

Whether you’re that makeup junkie who’s always on the go or whether you only have that one brow product, simply switching up your tools will go a long way to creating different brow looks. When asked about which brow product he’d pick to use for the rest of his life, Jared reasoned, “I would go with one that’s very versatile, the Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder. The thing with being “foolproof”, it’s a powder that comes with a blending sponge so that it can be really soft and natural. But you could also use a hard-angled brush to create super defined and crisp brows [with powder].” He adds, “It depends on what tool you use to apply it with. You can watch most pro-makeup artists who use powders to do something super defined, then you see novices use brow powder to create something super soft-looking.”

#4 There’s Always A Product For Your Different Brow Needs

Amongst their arsenal of cosmetics, Benefit’s brow products are definite standouts. “We start with the ‘problem’ and then we work backwards to create the solution. That’s really been the way every product has been created at Benefit since day one.” Jared shared, “The way we think of our products are these instant beauty solutions. If you have unruly hair, we created a clear brow gel. If you have sparse brows, we created a primer that actually has grains that help make your hair look thicker, fuller and healthier. If you have flat or dull brows, and you need dimension, we created the ‘Browtones’. If you have gaps, we created the powder. So everything goes back to a problem that it’s gonna solve.”

#5 Don’t Worry About Them Scars

We asked Rochelle about the hardest brow problems to solve (in her opinion), and judging by her answer, there isn’t any brow issue that is too difficult to fix! “There are some women who have scars on their brows after getting into an accident. Because hair won’t grow back anymore, it will leave an empty space there. So we always recommend them to use Benefit’s ka-BROW! eyebrow cream-gel color because it is very thick and pigmented – it can be pressed onto the skin to cover up the sparse spaces and enhance the hairs at the same time.

#6 Rocking Brows With Coloured Hair

Those with brightly coloured tresses would know the struggle of finding the correct brow shade that matches both the face and hair. While some have tried dying their eyebrows to match, Jared advises against that method. “Try going with the undertones of the hair. If your hair is a cooler colour, use cooler tones to fill in your brows. If it’s a warmer colour, use brow products with warmer tones.” Jared continues, “And depending on the actual colour of the brow hair, that’s when you know if you need a lighter, medium or deeper shade. If your brow hair is dark, use a deep and cool colour. If it’s a cool colour and it’s light, use a light cool colour.”

Queen Rihanna ain’t the only one who’s been dipping her fabulous toes into the beauty game. Ahead, we list 8 coveted beauty brands founded by celebrities and influencers alike.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

Hot on the heels of her Fenty fashion line, Rihanna has finally launched her very own beauty brand! Inspired to create Fenty Beauty after realising the gap for products that would work across skin types and tones, Riri set out to create a dynamic and inclusive range of quality cosmetics. Think 40 shades of Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation ($50) that’ll cater to even traditionally hard-to-match skin tones, one universal shade of lip gloss suitable across all skin tones, 30 magnetic Match Stix Skinsticks that serve to contour, correct, conceal, highlight and blush for everyday women on the go. And with affordable prices at lux quality and aesthetics, it’s little wonder Fenty has already built up a worldwide fan following in the days since its launch – much like it’s Queen Rihanna herself!

Fenty Beauty is available at Sephora, from $31 onwards

KKW Beauty by Kim Kardashian

A post shared by KKWBEAUTY (@kkwbeauty) on

With millions following her every move (and contour), dipping the Kim Kardashian brand into the beauty game seems like a natural turn to take for this reality TV mogul. Launching Kim Kardashian West Beauty (KKW Beauty) back in 21 June, no one was surprised when her first sell-out collection of contour and highlight kits raked in over USD$14.4 million with Kim selling a whopping 300,000 units in just under five minutes. And it may not just be the hype of the Kardashian brand that’s helping these kits fly off the virtual shelves as soon as they’re restocked; KKW Beauty products have received mostly positive reviews from YouTube beauty gurus. With that being said, at USD$48 a pop (excluding shipping)  Kim’s products aren’t exactly as affordable compared to the other beauty brands on this list.

KKW Beauty is available for international shipping, from USD$45 onwards.

Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner

You know her name and her lip kits. The younger sister of the aforementioned Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner first made her foray into beauty back in 2015 with her three shade Kylie Lip Kits that sold out within seconds. Since then, her coveted lip kits have turned into an unstoppable phenomenon, with the brand reportedly being on track to earn its first billion by 2022. Kylie Cosmetics has since branched out from simple lip kits to lust-worthy eye and cheek palettes, proving this young mogul to be an unstoppable beauty powerhouse.

Kylie Cosmetics are available for international shipping, from USD$14 onwards

Kat Von D

Celebrity tattoo artist turned beauty mogul, Kat Von D’s namesake cosmetic brand has constantly left us wondering how our makeup routines survived without her classic lip kits, foundations and eyeshadow palettes. Launched in 2008, this near decade-old brand has been on the cutting edge of beauty – Kat brought the world her iconic Everlasting Liquid Lipstick back when the liquid lippie trend was just a concept – and built a strong cult following with her fun yet high quality makeup.

Kat Von D is available at Sephora, from $19 onwards

Michelle Phan

A post shared by EM Cosmetics (@emcosmetics) on

The true pioneer of YouTube beauty gurus, Michelle Phan has been in the beauty game longer than any other celebrity/influencer on this list. Starting out with cosmetic collaborations with makeup giants like L’Oréal and Lancome early on in her career, Michelle launched ‘EM Cosmetics’ under the L’Oréal umbrella back in 2013. Barely three years later, that venture was deemed a failure thanks to narrow market demographics and high product price points – Michelle subsequently bought Em back in 2015 and took a year-long digital hiatus while working hard to improve on her brainchild. In early 2017, Michelle boldly announced EM (and her) comeback with a collection that featured innovative liquid eyeliners and cream lipsticks which not only looked good on social media, but wowed consumers as well. And the rest is history.

EM Cosmetics is currently only available in the US, from USD$15 onwards

Jeffree Star Cosmetics

Cultivating a unique following since his Myspace/musician days, Jeffree Star has gone from being a notorious name on the Internet to a successful beauty brand in his own right (albeit still being pretty controversial). With his eponymous brand turning 3 this year and showing no signs of slowing, it’s evident that Jeffree’s strategy to “deliver only products that worked and did exactly what they say” while being totally fun and creative, is working. If you want out of the norm, quality makeup (Jeffree Star Cosmetics carries neon yellow and lime green liquid lipsticks!), you know just the brand to head to.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics are available for international shipping from Jeffree’s website, Beauty Bay and Beautylish, from USD$12 onwards.

Huda Beauty by Huda Kattan

A post shared by Huda Kattan (@hudabeauty) on

Making a leap from a career in finance to the cosmetics industry, beauty YouTuber and influencer Huda Kattan’s first beauty product – false eyelashes which were first sold in Sephora Dubai and eventually becoming a smash hit with the likes of Kim K. – was unconventional to say the least. In the four years since the official launch of Huda Beauty, this Iraqi-American beauty has branched out highly coveted lip, highlighter and eyeshadow products. And added millions to her already substantial beauty community while doing so.

Huda Beauty is available for international shipping, from USD$20 onwards

Zoella Beauty by Zoe Sugg

A post shared by Zoella Beauty (@zoellabeauty) on

Gotta say, Zoella Beauty’s products are a total embodiment of English beauty and lifestyle v-logger Zoe Sugg herself: whimsical, bubbly and all-round IG-worthy. “When life catches up with us, we all need space to dream and indulge,” explained Zoe in a brand bio, “so I’ve created my own special range of bath and beauty loveliness to help you find your happy place.” Consisting of bathroom and beauty staples like creamy body lotions, sugar scrubs, fruity perfumes and more, Zoella Beauty has been continuously well-received by her almost 12-million strong subscriber base and beyond.

Zoella Beauty is available for international shipping on Feel Unique, from £5 onwards.
