Want to look your best for the new school year? We’ve got you covered. Strut through the hallways looking fresh-faced and totally fabulous with these simple beauty tricks!

1) Start with foundation. But rather than caking on a full face of foundation that looks overdone, opt for a lightweight yet long-lasting formula that will give you flawless coverage throughout the day. Cushion compacts are great because they’re so handy – just toss it in your bag and whip it out for touchups on-the-go!

ETUDE HOUSE Any Cushion All Day Perfect

Try: Etude House Any Cushion All Day Perfect SPF50+ / PA+++, $32

2) Keep it minimal. Skip the foundation if you only have minimal trouble spots on your face. All you need is a small amount of concealer to cover any areas of concern such as blemishes, sun spots or dark circles – and you’re good to go!

CATRICE Liquid Camouflage

Try: Catrice Liquid Camouflage, $5.90

3) Shape your brows. Having the right brow shape does wonders to one’s overall appearance. Start by tweezing any stray hairs that are out of place, then filling in your brows with an eyebrow pencil one shade lighter than your natural hair colour.

Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil

Try: Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil, $42

4) Amp up your peepers. If a traditional cat eye looks too harsh for school, why not try a subtle take on the winged liner look? Trace a fine line along the upper lashes and create a sleek flick at the corner of the eye. Messed up? Simply go in with q-tip dipped in makeup remover to clean up smudges around the area, and voila!

essence Super Precise Eyeliner

Try: essence Super Precise Eyeliner, $4.90

5) Fake it till you make it. If clumpy mascara is not your thing, swap it out for a pair of falsies instead. These faux ones look super natural and won’t melt under the heat, all while giving your lashes instant volume.

Muse & Co Everyday Eyelashes

Try: Muse & Co Everyday Eyelashes, $2.95

6) Achieve a natural flush. To cheat an all-natural look, adding a hint of colour to your cheeks will do the trick. Sweep on a soft coral shade to the apples and blend it out with your fingertips for a flirty flush.

Sephora Blush To Go

Try: Sephora Blush To Go, $19

7) Go sheer on the lips. For the perfect everyday lip, we recommend a sheer lip balm that delivers a pop of colour while keeping your pucker hydrated all day long. If you want to rock a bolder look for after school, layer the colour for a more vibrant tint and blot it to set the application.

3CE Bebe Color Lip Balm

Try: 3CE Bebe Color Lip Balm, $25

TIP! After a long day at school, don’t forget to remove your makeup. Leaving a full face of cosmetics on may lead to breakouts, so be diligent in getting rid of the grime to maintain a healthy complexion. No better way to get your glow on!

Get Party Ready With These Colourful Makeup Looks

22 Dec 2017 by Chew Hui Ling

The holiday season is officially upon us! Whether you’re hanging out with the girls or hitting the town for a glam night out, these bold statement looks are sure to turn heads wherever you go. Let the party begin!

#1 Seeing Red

There’s just something about a classic red lip that gives you an instant dash of Hollywood glam. We’re obsessed with this RiRi- approved shade of crimson, which looks even more amazing paired with mahogany-toned eyeshadow brushed across the lids.

#2 Pretty In Pink

With millennial pink having a major moment now, why not try a monochromatic take
on the trend? To match your high-gloss pucker, sweep on a vibrant wash of pink high on the cheekbones and over your lids for a flushed yet dewy look.

#3 Feeling Blue

Blue is one of the most intimidating hues to pull off, but it makes for an edgy and striking look when done right. If you aren’t quite daring enough to go all out with a single shade of blue, try blending in similar cool tones such as lilac or turquoise across your peepers for a multi-dimensional effect. Let your eyes do the talking!

(From left to right) Make Up For Ever Artist Rogue Lipstick in Matte Brick Red, $35, NYX Prismatic Eyeshadow in Blue Jeans, $10, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Dazzled, $47, Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette, $72

#4 Yellow Fever

For a wearable twist on the golden hue, go for colours with yellow undertones such as corals and nudes that are flattering on every skin tone. Dab on a shimmery eyeshadow, pucker up with an apricot pout and paint a tiny heart under your eye for a cheeky accent – and you’re all set!

Even the best of us have struggled with our brows, and as a result many techniques and products have been developed to combat various brow issues. But this new eyebrow-raising (no pun intended) hack might just be one for the Brow Hack Hall of Fame.

Aptly captioned “Tag a mate with no eyebrows”, a video showing a few girls drawing in their brows quickly made the rounds on social media. But it wasn’t their sparse brows that drew attention; it was the ingenious method they used to draw in fierce arches that left people gasping. And all they needed was an item that could be used to draw a straight line, such as a tweezer, bobby pin or even a toothpick.

If you wanna try your hand at this look, simply load brow product on your weapon of choice and carve out your desired brow shape before filling it in as you normally would. It looks easy enough when the girls do it, but we imagine you’ll need ample practice (and steady hands) to attain this level of precision.

Think this hack is weird? Check out some of these other hacks that are truly off the charts:

Food as makeup

A post shared by Raychel Newton (@makeup_maven) on

No need to worry about leaving your makeup kit behind – turns out you can use food as makeup too. While it’s definitely not a practical option, Raychel used a Snickers bar to contour her mug, raw beet as a lip stain and cocoa powder to fill in her brows… you get our drift.

Soaped up Brows

Ran out of brow mascara? Reach for a bar of soap instead. Shared by cult beauty brand, Anastasia Beverly Hills, all you’ve gotta do is load up a clean spooley with bar soap and gently brush it out.

Wasabi lip fillers

A post shared by Farah D (@farahdhukai) on

Lip plumpers have been all the rage ever since Kylie Jenner’s lips made their beauty debut, but this wasabi method definitely tops the wacky list. Taking wasabi straight from the tube, Farah applies it onto her lips and waits for about a minute before she wipes ’em off to reveal lush pink lips. While dermatologists have said that it’s ‘safe to use in moderation’, we definitely don’t recommend using this ‘hack’. You have been warned!
