Get through the school day looking super fresh (and with minimal touch-ups!) with these beauty guru-approved tips.
#1 Hairspray on ’em brows?!
Want full, natural-looking brows that’ll easily stay on throughout the day? Try Kathleen’s trick – using hairspray! In this video, Kathleen brings us through her brow routine step-by-step and how she achieves the long-wearing feathery brow look. And if brow gels don’t provide enough hold for you, she recommends a moulding compound (it’s a hair product!) and a strong hold hairspray, which will take your brows from day to night flawlessly.
#2 Primer helps your makeup stay on longer
You would think that it is an unnecessary layer, but primer actually helps hold your makeup for the entire day. Not only will it help your makeup go on smoother, the type of primer you pick (oil-control, colour correction, pore minimising…) sets a proper base for your foundation. It might not be the cheapest product to have (out of your makeup routine), but there are many affordable ones out there such as: Maybelline’s Master Prime Blur and Rimmel’s Stay Matte Primer.
#3 When it comes to your mascara wand, less is more
If you’re having trouble with clumpy mascara or if you find that your mascara smudges/transfers throughout the day, check out this video by makeup expert Wayne Goss, where he dishes easy tricks for lushes lashes. The first tip he shares is to wipe excess product off the mascara wand (to prevent clumping), which seems like a no brainer but is surprisingly a step that most might miss.
#4 Build your foundation without caking it up
Achieving full coverage without getting ‘cake face’ is possible. Here, Desi explains in detail how to conceal acne spots by ‘sheer-ing’ down the foundation to give off a luminous finish for the rest of the face whilst only layering product at the problem areas. While we’d advise letting your skin breathe (especially days with pesky breakouts), her tips definitely come in handy in a pinch.
#5 Get That Flawless Concealer
Do you often find yourself frustrating over too-thick concealer that constantly looks cracked or creased? All-time makeup guru, Pony, has the perfect solution: layer concealer directly on your makeup sponge before dabbing on your under eyes to give off a flawless, clean look. We think it is such an ingenious idea because that not only saves you more time, it also gives off the natural, blended look by controlling the amount of product that gets onto your skin. You can always build it up if you think it has not fully covered ’em dark eye circles.
#6 Blush is life
Blush = health. Yes, you heard Karen right. Dab on that blush on the apples of your cheeks and a little on your nose bridge for a healthy flush. And voila – a quick way to look ‘alive’ even after pulling an all-nighter.
#7 Use multi-purpose products
Always on-the-go and need a quick fix? Convenience and speed is key – Christen uses a bronzer for both contouring and eyeshadow to “warm up” her face. The idea is a clear winner: one product, multi-purposes, saves space and costs! We also know of lip tints doubling up as a blush, and cheek sticks that are used as lipstick and eyeshadow. Trust me, it’s a win-win situation.
#8 Shining bright like a diamond
It’s totally normal for your mug to get shiny throughout the day, especially around the T-zone. While the traditional solution would be to turn to blotting papers, Nikkia Joy recommends applying translucent powder before applying your foundation.
