Whether you’re a horror film buff or a scaredy cat seeking a thrill this Halloween, these movies will definitely be seared into your minds. Some scenes might even make you start looking over your shoulder to see if you have… extra company. Sweet dreams!

#1 Sinister 2

Sinister-II

Escaping from her abusive ex-husband, a mother resorts to hiding out in a rural house with her twin sons, thinking life would return to normal. Then Dylan, one of her twins, starts getting late night visits from a group of young other-worldly children, who forces him to watch gruesome movies of family murders. Paranormal phenomenas start unfolding and it is not long before the local Deputy realises that Bughuul (aka the Eater of Children) has returned — with new victims and a new plan. You don’t have to watch the first movie to catch on quickly, but we’d totally recommend it for that immersive spooky experience.

 #2 The Conjuring II

Conjuring II

What’s a Halloween movie marathon without this “classic” of a horror film? Set in 1977, notorious paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, are called to verify a single mother’s claims that her youngest daughter was being possessed by a demon, amongst other unexplained happenings. The couple then uncover a bigger force of evil at play that leaves them and the entire family fighting for their lives. If you loved The Conjuring, this sequel is guaranteed to have you bid sleep goodbye.

#3 Oculus

Oculus Movie

Brought to you by the same producer of the nerve-wracking Ouija, you know your horror-tooth is in for a treat. After witnessing how a mysterious mirror psychologically manipulated and drove their parents to their deaths, the young siblings are taken into custody and separated. They reunite a few years later and are determined to find out what was the evil force responsible for their family’s tragedy.

#4 Exeter

Exeter

As if partying at an abandoned asylum wasn’t creepy enough, a group of foolhardy teenagers decided to push paranormal boundaries by conducting rituals – their “innocent” experiment unleashed a violent evil that lay within the depths of the old building. In order to get out alive, they will have to pry into the secrets of the asylum, which ends in an utter bloodbath. Going to a Halloween party? Be extra careful!

#5 Insidious: Chapter 3

Insidious Chapter Three

After several horrifying visits to the dark spiritual world, parapsychologist Elise Rainier wishes to put all that in the past by keeping her psychic abilities contained. But after a teenager starts showing obvious signs of demonic possession by a malicious spirit posing as her late mother, Elise is forced to return to the exact grounds she wished to never set foot on again — The Further — in order to save the girl, and to ensure her own survival. Psst: this Halloween, we dare you to watch all three chapters of Insidious.

#6 The Strangers

The Strangers

Inspired by real events, the thriller starts off with a young couple spending a relaxing weekend away in their summer home to attend a friend’s wedding. However, the peaceful illusion was broken when three strangers shows up at their doorstep with twisted intentions. They want to get in and they will, one way or another. Be careful who you open your doors to, especially on Halloween. Even if you hear “Trick or treat”.

 #7 The Possession

The Possession

Based on a true story, a young girl comes into possession of an old wooden box with Hebrew letter engravings on it. Initially locked shut, no one is able to pry it open till that night, when Em starts hearing dark whispers from the box – she finds only a tooth, a dead moth, a figurine and a ring inside. Em’s behaviour grows increasingly sinister which leads her father to connect Em’s violent acts to the box. Can the family stop the evil before it consumes Em entirely?

#8 Lights Out

Lights Out

Ever wondered what really lies in the shadows? Rebecca has long forgotten the presence from her childhood, lurking in the dark every time the lights are switched off. But her fears are brought back when she has to protect her brother and mother, who suffers from a mental disorder, from an evil entity manifested from her mother’s secretive past. Whatever was in the shadows is still there… You might wanna watch this one with the lights on.

4 Reasons Why Mocomichi Hayami Is The Real Absolute Boyfriend

18 Oct 2016 by Chew Hui Ling

We’re not kidding when we say Japanese heartthrob Mocomichi Hayami is the entire package: he’s got the textbook good looks, he’s a ridiculously talented chef, and he’s the epitome of the perfect boyfriend every girl wishes for. In Singapore for his first ever fanmeet on 2 October (aptly titled ‘A Date with Moco’), the Absolute Boyfriend actor proves that he’s not just a sweetheart on TV, but in real life too.

#1 He knows the way to your heart

Through your stomach, that is! Just imagine going home to a personal chef who whips up all your favourite dishes, because really, what’s more swoon-worthy than a bachelor who cooks? The dashing actor-host of hit Japanese cooking show MOCO’s Kitchen comes up with six recipes on an average recording day, but it ain’t just for show – after completing his third dish, Moco would willingly make lunch for the crew using the leftover ingredients, causing the staff to playfully complain that they are “expanding in size” because of him. Well, pretty sure y’all wouldn’t mind being fed by Moco every day, right?

#2 He’s a pro in and out of the kitchen

If his domestic husband side doesn’t impress you, his athletic expertise might just make you change your mind. While he’s not steaming it up in the kitchen, the hunky 32-year-old can be found pumping iron in the gym or hitting the running tracks on his days off. Guess that’s the secret behind his ripped bod!

#3 He gives Romeo a run for his money

Moco’s the perfect example of the Mr. Nice Guy archetype all the hopeless romantics have a soft spot for. The proof? During an exclusive meet-and-greet with 100 fans, five lucky girls had the opportunity to interact with their beloved idol up-close on stage and each one of them walked away with an autographed apron – which were lovingly wrapped around their waists by the actor himself, much to the envy of everyone else present! Cue the “awws”.

#4 He stays humble despite his star status

While celebrities have a reputation of throwing their weight around, we loved how Moco still remains down-to-earth in spite of his fame. In the midst of filming Facebook live during the meet-and-greet, the emcee stood up momentarily in order to let the camera capture Moco in frame more clearly. But to our surprise, the kind-hearted actor showcased his good manners by getting out of his seat and choosing to stand up throughout the interview. Who wouldn’t wish to have a boyfriend like Moco?

Why Nathan Hartono Doesn't Need First Place To Win

8 Oct 2016 by Chew Hui Ling

Mop up your tears, Internet: Nathan Hartono’s Sing!China dream may be over, but our hometown boy’s still the biggest winner in our hearts. Not only did he make it into the coveted top two, the 25-year-old also walked away with plenty of life-changing opportunities ahead, and it’s safe to say he’ll be continuing to live out his dreams on a global scale. Before we delve into the deep stuff, let’s recap the magic from last night’s suspense-inducing finale.

See what we mean when we say he’s still the champ? We give you 6 more reasons why Nathan Hartono came out tops in our books.

#1 Everyone already knows his name

Ask any stranger on the streets of Orchard Road whether they’ve heard of a certain smiley lad on Sing!China and it’ll probably be a resounding yes. After all, Nathan made history by becoming the first ever Singaporean to enter the finals, having spent the entire season being favoured by judges and fans for his swoon-worthy vocals.

Yes, including this lovely Starbucks barista.

#2 He’s got famous fans in his club

As if having an endless line of fangirls queuing up to be his girlfriends ain’t enough, the chap has some pretty famous names cheering him on! Aside from his celebrity mentor Jay Chou, Nathan garnered massive support from his local clique from the likes of Benjamin KhengCharlie Lim, Joakim Gomez, Deekosh and more.

He’s even won praise from Taiwanese veteran singer Judy Ongg, who complimented that his voice was “a miracle” and that he “has a big future waiting for him”. We couldn’t agree more!

#3 He’s landed a major record deal

Following his highly-successful single ‘Electricity’ under Warner Music Singapore back in July, the musician is set to release a new batch of music at the end of the year. As much as we adore his awkward attempts at Mandarin, we can’t wait for him to embrace his jazzy English roots again.

#4 All the brands love him

Y’know should’ve known that Nathan’s pretty much the unofficial spokesperson of Milo by now (Milo Hartono, anyone?), and it gets better when Nestle decided to make his dream a reality by treating everyone to Milo peng at Plaza Singapura before his finals on Friday. We’ve also gotten word that more Milo parties are on their way, so look out for that!

To sweeten the deal further, F&B chain Tung Lok (whose executive chairman, Andrew Tjioe, happens to be Nathan’s uncle) will be celebrating his achievements by gifting patrons with free servings of his favourite dishes this weekend, plus a 25 per cent discount at all its outlets this coming Monday. Thanks for the free food, Nathan!

#5 Even China doesn’t wanna let him go

Fun fact: Nathan was actually offered an audition opportunity on Sing!China last year, which he unfortunately turned down due to his busy filming schedule. Even though he wasn’t able to emerge victorious, it seems like China already has its eyes set on this budding talent.

“There’s been a bunch [of offers], but I have been dodging a lot of those things because I really want to recollect myself when this thing is over,” he revealed in an earlier interview. “I’m still an indie musician now, but this year’s plans may change rapidly after this.” Regardless of his decision, what we do know is that he’s gonna be even bigger in 2017 and beyond. Watch out, world!

#6 Yet he’s incredibly humble about everything

Despite not taking home the gold, we loved how Nathan remained cool about his loss and instead expressed his gratitude for being able to perform at the famed Beijing “Bird’s Nest”. “I’m not bothered one bit. I couldn’t have been happier to even be included in the finals. To then compete in the Top 2? That’s just insane,” the singer bared it all in a heartfelt Instagram post. “My heart is full, my body is tired, my stomach is craving bak chor mee.” (Someone, please feed the poor boy some bak chor mee.)

Welcome home, Nathan Hartono.

10 Times Nathan Hartono Won At Internet Humour

7 Oct 2016 by Johanna Teo

Nathan Hartono has won many things. From winning his first singing competition at 14 (Teenage ICON, anybody?) to the genetic lottery, to his charming-as-heck disposition, it’s safe to conclude that Nathan’s got a lot going on for him. But there’s one thing the local musician has won that has gone largely unnoticed – Internet humour. It started with that Milo comment, now we’re here. And it’s spun outta control. Here are his top 10 moments!

#1 His curated selection of Snapchat filters
