Freshly Released Movie Trailers from Comic Con 2016

25 Jul 2016 by Venetia Sng

Comic Con just happened over the weekend at San Diego and for all you fans out there who’ve missed all the juicy Comic Con exclusive releases, we’ve compiled everything here. You are welcome!

Wonder Woman Trailer

It has been a long time coming and you can hear feminists all around the world cheering as the trailer played. Though we’re not so sure about the on-screen chemistry between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, the culture clash between the two characters definitely looks endearing as hell. Wonder Woman is set to be released in theatres June 2017.

Justice League Teaser

Since the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year, we’ve been looking forward to the DC’s equivalent to Marvel’s Avengers. Though the movie is still in the midst of filming but hey we’re loving what we’re seeing thus far. It’s nice that Batman not scowling all the time and we can already foresee Ezra Miller stealing the show as the wisecracking Flash. Justice League will be hitting the screens November 2017.

Doctor Stranger Trailer

For all you Cumberb*tches out there who can’t get enough of Benedict Cumberbatch, they released a second (and fuller) trailer for Doctor Strange. Ignoring that Tilda Swinton was casted as the Ancient One (who’s suppose to be Asian), we’re blown away by the sheer awesomeness of the special effects, the cape flip at 1:47 and that wifi password joke was just hilarious! Doctor Strange will be in theatres November 2016.

Suicide Squad

This film is so heavily marketed, we’re getting bit sick of the hype actually. We want to see more Cara Delevingne and less Will Smith, but we don’t mind more Margot Robbie thank you. No matter, we’re still looking forward to catching it at the movies in August this year!

Are you on team DC or team Marvel after watching all these clips? Let us know in the comments below!

Enduring two gruelling survival shows (as if one wasn’t enough) plus countless of training sessions day and night to perfect their choreography, have made their bond stronger than before. Did we mention how we bawled our eyes out during their last performance at the finals of WIN: Who Is Next? Movie of the Week: Star Trek Beyond

20 Jul 2016 by Venetia Sng

Can all the Star Trek fans in the room please stand up! We’re so stoked that the third film of the franchise reboot is finally hitting the screens this week! We give you a refresher of what happened in the first 2 films of the series plus check out the super cool individual posters of the cast in the gallery above!

The crew of the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, are attacked by a seemingly unstoppable wave of unknown aliens, forcing them to abandon ship. Stranded on an unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, the crew find themselves in conflict with a new and ruthless enemy.

If you can’t remember or didn’t watch the first 2 films of the series, here’s a recap of what happened to the two main characters in Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness! Warning: Spoiler alert!

James T. Kirk

Star Trek Chris Pine

Star Trek: Kirk’s dad, George Kirk, died as a hero in a kamikaze attack against the Romulans when they attacked Federation starship USS Kelvin. Captain Christopher Pike convinced him to join the Starfleet Academy and he somehow ended up captaining USS Enterprise when Captain Pike was captured by the Romulans. Long story short, he saved the day and the Romulans were destroyed.

Star Trek Into Darkness: Kirk screwed up a mission at the start of the movie, got stripped of his title and ends up as first officer to Captain Pike (yet again). Khan killed Pike in an attack against the Starfleet and Kirk goes on a rampage to revenge the death of his mentor. But the admiral of Starfleet was the real baddie using Kirk the whole time to start a war with the Klingons. He died, but was revived using Khan’s blood as it has regenerative powers. Long story short, Kirk saved the day, the admiral died, Khan was re-frozen and no war was started.

Star Trek Zachary Quinto

Star Trek: Born to a Vulcan father and human mother, Spock was looked down on ever since he was young. Though he was accepted into the prestigious Vulcan Science Academy, he join Starfleet instead (just ’cause he can). His home planet Vulcan was destroyed by the Romulans as an act of revenge and he met Spock from the future (129 years to be exact)! Long story short, he helped save the day and no longer hates Kirk.

Star Trek Into Darkness: Kirk saved Spock’s life at the start of the movie and Spock being Spock, feels that it was only logical that they should have left him to die as they messed up the mission all because they wanted to save him. Fast forward to the part when Kirk dies, Spock finally realised how much they mean to each other (in a brotherly way), beats the hell out of Khan for revenge and after Kirk was revived, the BFFs are now inseparable.

Special Mention: Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chakov

Star Trek Anton Yelchin

Our favourite navigator Pavel Chakov best moment was when he had to replace as the chief engineer of the Enterprise after Montgomery “Scotty” Scott resigned in Star Trek Into Darkness.

Actor Anton Yelchin was found by friends pinned between his car and a brick pillar outside his home, in what was described as a freak accident. He was pronounced dead later that day at the age of 27.

Star Trek will be on screens on 21 July!

PSA for Singaporeans Preparing for Pokemon Go

15 Jul 2016 by Venetia Sng

Though the game is not officially available in Singapore yet, no harm prepping ourselves in order to be the very best right? We share with you some tips plus what we’ve seen on the web so far about the game (the good, the bad and the weird) so that you’d be mentally prepared for Pokémon Go. Psst.. by the way, you can download and play Pokémon Go now by following this set of instructions here!

3 things you need

When you play Pokémon Go, other than your phone of course.

#1 Sunscreen

Trust us, you will be out a lot more and if you don’t have the habit of putting on sunscreen/sunblock, then we’d recommend getting Bioderma’s Photoderm range which protects your skin and repairs damaged DNA as well. You wouldn’t want to end up with some serious sunburns.

#2 Cap

Pokemon Cap

Firstly, it is to shade yourself from the blistering sun. Secondly, wouldn’t it be so cool of you could turn your cap around just like Ash right before a battle or capturing a Pokémon?!

#3 Portable Charger

Sony Portable Charger

We know a lot of people are going to end up playing the game the whole day so we suggest getting them a portable charger as a gift if their birthdays are nearing. They will be eternally grateful.

Pokemon Go Save Battery

Or you can just switch on the Battery Saver mode so that your battery wouldn’t be drained as fast.

The Good

Pokemon Go Hatch Egg copy

Other than travelling to Pokéstops and Gyms, you’d need to walk a specific distance in order to hatch those eggs as well. Time to invest in a bicycle?

Naming your Pokemon

Pokemon Go Name 2

We’re going to have fun with naming our Pokémons when the time comes. Naming a Psyduck as Goreng Pisang is hilarious ’cause it looks like one, geddit geddit?

The Bad

Getting mugged

Pokemon Go Robbery

Your privacy invaded

Relationships ruined

Tip: Get your partner in the game as well so that both of you can enjoy it together!

The Weird

Damaging your phone

Pokemon Go Tweet 1

Pokemon Go Tweet 2

Pokemon Go Tweet 3

Note to self, do not throw your phone even if the game gets too exciting.

Getting fired

Pokemon Go Sonny

If you didn’t know about the infamous Sonny Truyen being fired by 99.co after working there for a week as their VP for Digital Marketing, read more about it here.

Movie of the Week: Ghostbusters

13 Jul 2016 by Venetia Sng

Though it has been more than 30 years since the first movie of the original Ghostbusters series, the show is such a classic that we can watch it 10 years from now and still enjoy it as much. We were thrilled when it was announced that the new team would be made up of females only (girl power!) and after watching the trailer, we’re very sure that it’ll be a classic just like the original series.

Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) are a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. A few years later, Gilbert lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia University, but her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. When ghosts invade Manhattan, Gilbert reunites with Yates, teaming up with a nuclear engineer, Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), and a subway worker, Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones), to save the world from a mysterious evil and powerful demon known as Rowan (Neil Casey) who can exercise control over human forms.

Here’s the cast with their counterparts from the original series!
