Local Sheerios will be pleased to hear that Ed Sheeran’s doctors have given him the green light for the Singapore leg of his world tour!

When Ed Sheeran broke his arm back in mid-October, thousands of get well soon wishes poured in from fans all over the world. But seeing as the crooner was scheduled to kickstart his Asian tour in Taipei just a few days later, the main question on everybody’s mind was: would Ed still be able to perform?

A post shared by Ed Sheeran (@teddysphotos) on

Fans can now breathe a sigh of relief because even though the doctors had initially advised Ed to cancel his tour to let his arm recuperate, they’ve given him the go ahead – which makes Ed’s Singapore shows on 11 and 12 November his very first pit stop! The rest of his tour dates in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Mumbai and Dubai will go ahead as scheduled, while the Osaka, Tokyo and Manila tour dates will be rescheduled to April 2018.

Unfortunately, the concerts in Taipei, Seoul, Hong Kong and Jarkata have to be cancelled because they’ve (in Ed’s words) “been impossible to reschedule for next year”. However, he reassures fans that he is “working hard with my team to try and come back to these places soon as I can to see all of you”, so chin up Sheerios!

In the meantime, watch Ed Sheeran perform broken arm parodies to his very own hit songs! “When your arms don’t work like they used to before…” Hilarious.

7 Times Camila Cabello's 'Havana' Music Video Left Us Shook

25 Oct 2017 by Bryan Yeong

It’s finally here! Our October cover star Camila Cabello’s musical ode to her heritage ‘Havana’ is scorching up the charts with an epic mini-movie of a music video to boot.

‘Havana’ has become Camila Cabello’s biggest solo hit so far. Already amassing career peaks of #2 on the UK and Australia charts, there’s without a doubt that the hilarious 6 minute-long video clip she just released for it will propel the track’s success further. We take a look at the highlights from the video, where Camila takes on multiple starring roles.

When we thought it was going to be a Telenova

The video opens with Camila catching her lover in bed with her best friend – all in classic dramatic fashion. The dialogue is also exaggeratedly cheesy in the style of telenovas (Latin American soap operas) and as the screen fades out, we realise that Nerd Camila is actually watching Telenova Camila as a character on a fictional show. A plot twist within the first 2 minutes!

When she revealed her inner actress

Before we cut to Nerd Camila though, can we just say Camila is showing some serious acting chops in her fictional telenova? Going from melodramatic shocked to distraught, Camila plays off every emotion with enough convincing to not count her out on making a proper screen debut in the future.

When her Abuelita dishes some advice

So Nerd Camila happens to be a homebody who loves being with her abuelita (Spanish for ‘Grandmother’), but her granny actually wants her to experience the outside world, even suggesting to follow her on-screen sister to party. Erm… we’re pretty sure some of us wish our parents could be as open-minded to this notion, and let us stay outdoors without curfews – if only!

When she lit up the stage

After her granny dozes off at home, Camila sneaks off to watch a late-night movie titled ‘Havana’ on her own, where Camila – surprise! – is also the film’s feisty leading lady in red! Movie star Camila enthrals on stage performing her spicy single, and it’s evident that Camila is a natural in front of the cameras.

When she busts out her dance moves

Think Camila would just stand on stage and sing? Not a chance. Flirting with a fellow dancer in the Latin club, Camila shows off her salsa-inspired moves of shimmies and shakes, accentuated by her flapper dress. It’s common knowledge that Camila could nail choreography since her Fifth Harmony days, but who knew she could burn up a dancefloor like this?!

When she made a declaration of self-love

Movie star Camila eyes her love interest and follows him outside in the fictional film’s climax scene, but in a surprising twist, rejects him and declares she loves herself more than being together. “That’s it?! That’s the ending? You end up alone?”, yells Nerd Camila from the cinema seats. “Hey sweetie. If you don’t like my story, go write your own!”, actress Camila fires back, breaking the fourth wall. We’ve seen multiple pop stars play different roles in music videos, but never this amusing!

When she embraces life

Feeling inspired after watching the movie, Camila proceeds outside and breaks into a dance just as her crush cycles by and crashes. She helps him up, and the two launch into a romantic sidewalk dance – finding love and signalling a happy ending for our Latina dreamer!

Check out the music video’s rad poster, and watch the full music video below!

We’ve seen pop stars documenting their artistic processes behind their latest projects, but one that stands out among the rest is Demi Lovato’s recent YouTube Original Simply Complicated.

Taking an unabashed magnifying glass look at the powerhouse diva’s troubled past, the outcome is a startling reveal that digs deep into her truth, and reminds us all that we really don’t know what goes on in our idols’ lives behind the glitz and glamour facade. Sitting down to touch on everything from her musical growth to her publicised breakup with Wilmer Vanderrama, no topic is left untouched. We highlight five moments from the feature we were surprised to discover, and which made us feel for Demi even more.

Addiction Battles

Considerably the largest plot point of the documentary is Demi’s admittance that she’s still not as mentally strong as most might think. Demi last did a similar documentary back in 2012 titled Demi Lovato: Stay Strong, but confessed this time that she was still on drugs during that phase – a shocking revelation considering how she was advocating her sobriety back then. While Demi has come clean and is now five years into her sobriety, she still loses her battle against eating disorders from time to time, triggered by missing her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Vanderrama. Its a stark reminder that even our favourite inspirational idols fall victim to their inner demons sometimes – and the first step of overcoming personal turmoils is by acknowledging them.

Love Confessionals

The media loves to speculate about celebrities’ love lives, but Demi is quick to announce that she’s single and loving it right now, going as far as to unashamedly dish that she’s on dating app Raya (a platform reserved for famous people) which points out that even stars have trouble when it comes to finding the right partner. But her heart will always have a soft spot for ex-of-six-years, Wilmer Vanderrama, and Demi bravely confronts the fact that she might never find someone that compares to him. Aww… we’re rooting for you, single Demi!

Silent Struggles

Other shocking truths were unraveled when Demi revealed that she once got so drunk until she threw up in the car while on the way to the airport en route for a performance on American Idol, where she sang while still hungover. ” I felt like that was a moment in my career where I didn’t care. I just knew that I needed to get high to get through what I was going through a that point”, she shockingly confessed.

Elsewhere, Demi’s manager Phil McIntyre divulged that during Demi’s stint as a judge on the second season of The X Factor US, she was actually living in a house void of any alcohol or drugs and had no access to her phone. We can’t imagine what juggling mentor duties on a reality competition with personal challenges would feel like, but the struggle must’ve been real for Demi during that period, while she feigned her confidence in front of the cameras throughout.

Musical Prowess

We all know Demi can hit some insane sky-high notes, but in the studio, who knew Demi had a perfectionist side? While recording ‘You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore’, a track off her phenomenal new album Tell Me You Love Me, Demi demands for more takes to nail every line and note, despite her producer already giving the green-light for the track. The result is an obviously flawless delivery, and we’d be surprised if Demi’s latest musical offerings don’t get a Grammy nod at the upcoming awards ceremony next year.

Road To Recovery

The documentary closes off with positivity where we witness Demi truly embracing her recovery with honesty. And a place she attributes her return to form and forgetting about her heartbreak and addiction issues? The gym. Demi has always been one of the ultimate #Fitspo celebs, but watching her throw punches and flips in MMA and Brazilian Jujitsu with fervour really is something else. Demi’s decision to be brutally honest about her life truly serves as a beacon of hope and encouragement that all of us can get through the toughest of times, and we wish more pop stars would embrace and share their honesty like Demi has.

Move aside binge-watchers, ’cause binge-racers are primed and ready to speed ahead!

What-Is-Binge-Racing-Netflix

Binge-watching has now become a millennial norm, what with the rise of streaming platforms like Netflix giving us unfiltered access to a lifetime’s worth of content. And being able to watch your favourite dramas whatever you want, wherever and whenever has evolved viewers onto a whole new level altogether: binge-racing – where Binge Racers speed through an entire season within 24 hours of its release. Here’s what you need to know about the insane ways of binge-racing and how it has taken over viewing habits all over the world (because it’s apparently a thing now).

#1 There Are Over 8 Million Binge-racers Globally

Binge-watching-accounts-growth-netflix

According to Netflix, there are a total of 8.4 million subscribers who have chosen to binge race on their platform. And the number of binge-racers are expected to rise, with 2016 having 20 times more launch day finishers than in 2013!

#2 We Have Tons Of Binge Racers In Singapore

Turns out, we have plenty of Singaporean binge racers in our midst. Our little red dot holds the second highest percentage of binge-racers in Asia, losing out only to our Malaysian neighbours.

#3 Binge Racers Love All Type Of Content

The amazing thing about binge racing is that it isn’t limited solely to a specific TV show genre, how long its episodes are etc. Netflix shares that while 30-minute comedies like Master of None, Glow and Dear White People rank highly amongst binge racers, hour-long thrillers like Stranger Things, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black are equally popular too.

#4 Singapore Loves K-drama

The Hallyu wave ain’t dying any time soon. Confirming what we all already knew, Netflix shares that the binge genre of choice in Singapore is K-drama, with our country having the highest percentage of binge racers globally for The Sound of Your Heart. Score one for Kwang-soo!

#5 And We Love Marvel’s The Defenders Too!

The fiercest foursome to hit the streets yet, Marvel’s The Defenders scored the top binge-racing spot in Asia, in countries like Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Japan and South Korea. Close runner-ups include Gilmore Girls: A Year in the LifeSanta Clarita Diet and Terrace House: Aloha State

#6 Binge-racing Gets Very Intense

Needless to say, the art of binge racing isn’t an easy feat. Till date, only five Netflix members in the US have raced through all five seasons of House of Cards the day it was released on Netflix, whereas one member in France has already raced through 30 shows this year alone. “There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from being the first to finish a story — whether it’s the final page of a book or the last, climactic moments of your favorite TV show.” said Brian Wright, Vice President, Original Series. “Netflix allows you to watch in a way you never could before, and there’s nothing better than seeing a show engage our members and ignite a passion for viewing.”

While we’re still wrapping our heads around the insane binge racing routines (like watching five TV seasons in 24 hours) that people are picking up, it’s important not to get overly consumed with what’s playing on your screens. Remember, the content on streaming platforms like Netflix isn’t going to disappear anytime soon, so there’s nothing wrong with pacing yourself and truly enjoying whatever you’re watching instead of racing through it – quality over quantity!

We Rank The 7 Scariest Horror Movie Characters Of All Time

23 Oct 2017 by Bryan Yeong

We all admittedly love a good scare sometimes, courtesy of our all-time favourite movie characters that show up – usually unexpectedly – in various horror movies. But do they really live up to their fright factor? Make sure you’re not alone at night reading this, and get ready to find out!

Sadako

Is there any other horror character more iconic than the digitally-savvy, scorned female? Whether it’s her Japanese origin or the American counterpart, we can’t tear our terrified eyes away from the screen as she approaches it, before breaking barriers and crawling out into ‘reality’. Although nobody uses VCRs anymore, it doesn’t change the fact that Sadako will go down as a timeless movie villainess.

Scare Factor: 3.5/5

Pennywise

Clowns always had that undeniable creep factor, but perhaps none more so than Pennywise from It. Originally giving our parents’ generation nightmares in the 1990 miniseries, the 2017 movie remake brings his scare factor to a serious new level. Sporting updated demonic makeup and a less colourful outfit, 2017’s Pennywise fully establishes that we’ll never look at a clown the same way ever again. Even Ronald McDonald looks like a killer now.

Scare Factor: 4.5/5

Ghostface

Arguably the OG (original gangster) of serial killers, the hooded, masked murderer of the Scream film series is a bona fide veteran in the slasher movie genre. Over four movies, Ghostface stalked, taunted, and tortured the films’ central characters that began with his signature phone call. Thanks to spoof movie Scary Movie, fear of Ghostface has waned over the years, but trust MTV to revive the storyline to a hit TV series to keep the scares – and well, screams – living on.

Scare Factor: 1.5/5

Chucky

Chucky has been terrorising victims and giving dolls a bad name since way back in 1988’s cult classic Child’s Play. Initially intended as a sadistic, murderer in a Good Guy doll body, Chucky’s character has seen a surprising arc over the sequels. While his conniving and vicious killings remain a constant, it’s his witty and sarcastic remarks that has gained devout fans to keep up with the franchise, eventually spawning the upcoming Cult of Chucky. Not forgetting that he’s a family guy too – with wife Tiffany his partner-in-crime – that makes him an ironic horror character to root for.

Scare Factor: 2/5

Annabelle

Joining Chucky’s league of spooky possessed dolls is Annabelle, who became such a highlight of The Conjuring that she got her own movie series. While Chucky had full dialogue to reveal his evil thoughts and ways, Annabelle’s enigmatic and quiet nature is certainly what’s unsettling to viewers. The rag doll doesn’t utter a single word, instead choosing to strike fear with a single glare that gets under our skin every single time. Put her away!

Scare Factor: 4/5

Valak

If The Conjuring giving us Annabelle wasn’t bad enough, then The Conjuring 2 knew just how to make us quiver harder by introducing a very disturbing, demented nun only known as Valak. The ruthless creature is definitely not one we’d like running into on a late night walk home, and who could forget the chilling scene of Valak materialising from a painting? We might shield our eyes and cower away when its spin-off The Nun releases next year, but we all know we’ll still end up catching it in cinemas somehow.

Scare Factor: 5/5

Jigsaw

Less ghostly and more shocking, Saw‘s titular antagonist and king of gore still sends shivers down our spine seven movies later. The character’s uneven mask and swirly cheeks are only made even creepier by his propositions: kill or be killed. And his usual targets of sinners to mirror their wrongdoings only adds on to the disturbing plot of the Saw franchise, making us wanting to be on our best behaviour. Get ready to be shaken up by Jigsaw’s antics yet again later this year, with Jigsaw showing in cinemas 2 November 2017.

Scare Factor: 3/5
