Here's How You Can Access Your Spotify 2017 Listening History

7 Dec 2017 by Johanna Teo

The results are in… and our top listens belong to KOHH, Drake and wayyy too much K-pop. What do your listening habits look like?

It comes as no surprise that Spotify collects data from its users, from the songs we stream on its platform, our listening habits, and down to what we’re adding to our playlists. And they’re sharing all the info they’ve gathered into one condensed site, ‘2017 Wrapped’ to help listeners relive the songs and artistes they’ve loved the most this 2017.

By simply visiting this site, Spotify users can find out more about their music consumption, which includes everything from the most streamed artistes and songs, to how many minutes you’ve spent listening to musics, to the number of genres you’ve explored. It gets real detailed.

Apart from showcasing your (maybe embarrassing) song history, 2017 Wrapped also provides a short quiz to see how in tune you are with your musical tastes. Are you truly as indie as everyone thinks you are? Or are you a shower singer with an entire playlist dedicated to melancholic KTV songs? You’ll soon find out.

Also, Spotify has created ‘Ones That Got Away’, a highly personalised playlist to help you discover new music which the platform thinks you’ll love but have yet to listen to. These fun customised ‘mixtapes’ were created by identifying and studying a group of ‘Tastemakers’ – super active fans who have a penchant for discovering under the radar music –  and aligning their music tastes to other users. The result? A pool of fresh tunes specially customised for your ears only. Alternatively, you could listen to Spotify’s playlist of your top 100 songs – think of it like your very own Billboard top 100 chart.

What were your top tunes of 2017? Share your Wrapped results with us!

Oh Taylor, look what you made the Internet do.

We already know that the Internet can be petty AF. Ever since Taylor Swift dropped her polarising album that is Reputation – in which she reinvents herself as a darker, more intense version of her American sweetheart self – reactions have swung to both “love it” and “loathe it” extremes. So when a Swiftie posted a tweet asking the Internet to “name a badder b*tch than Taylor Swift”, you can be sure that the Internet spared no expense.

The tweet, which drew over 12,000 replies, saw unbelievably snide remarks.

But just when we thought the tweet would go down in negative flames, it morphed into one of the most inspirational clapbacks we’ve ever witnessed. Instead of simply ragging on Taylor, netizens actually started sharing about other badass ladies in history.

It soon turned into a thread that celebrated countless of under appreciated yet extremely important female figures.

Such as Dr. Milada Horakova, a politician and freedom fighter.

Warrior queen Che Siti Wan Kembang

Sally Ride, a brilliant physicist and astronaut who became the first American woman in space.

Emmy Noether was described by her peers as the “most important woman in the history of mathematics”.

Of course, we’re all familiar with Marie Curie.

Then there’s Bessie Coleman. The first female aviator of African American and Native American descent, flying schools in the US denied entry to Bessie, so she packed up and went to France, where she achieved her license in a short seven months.

Kathrine Switzer was the first woman ever to run the Boston Marathon. There was a race official who tried to stop her but he was literally shoved to the ground by Kathrine’s boyfriend. It wasn’t till 1972 that women were officially allowed to participate in the Boston Marathon.

French Resistance fighter Simone Segouin was only 18 years old when she risked her life carrying out missions (which included de-railing trains and blowing up bridges) against Nazi occupiers. She was present at the liberation of Chartres and Paris in 1944.

Nicknamed the Bandit Queen, Phoolan Devi was a gun-slinging ‘feminist Robin Hood’ who later became a successful politician.

A pioneer in women’s rights activism, Kate Sheppard led the New Zealand women’s suffragettes movement and helped women gain the right to vote in New Zealand.

Touted as the “Grandmother of Electronic Music”, Else Marie Pade was the first person in Denmark to start making electronic music. She was also a resistance fighter in an all-female Danish resistance group during WWII.

Queen Mandukhai was the Khatun of Mongolia. She led and won several great wars – she even fought while heavily pregnant, delivering twin boys during a long battle.

The coolest thing about this thread is not about the epic takedowns issued against Taylor. It’s about the reemergence of stories about inspirational women, and the reminder that we’re surrounded by badass females, Taylor Swift included. Head over to the original Twitter thread to read more about these awesome ladies!

What’s up with the Queen of Instagram?

Putting a public Instagram account on private seems like no big deal – except when it’s Selena Gomez, aka Instagram’s most followed person ever. Apart from the time she disabled her account after it was hacked, and when she laid low while recuperating from her kidney transplant, Selena has left her feed largely untouched. Which is why fans are starting to worry about the songstress after she quietly put her 130-million following account on private on Tuesday.

This action follows a couple of head-scratching Instagram Story updates. Selena, who’s currently on a promo run in London had first posted this video with the words “I need some alone time” emblazoned across her selfie.

The next day, the ‘Wolves’ songstress uploaded a screenshot of a specific portion of her cover story interview with Billboard – in which she was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year – along with a heated caption.

That particular section is actually Billboard’s introduction to the story, where the writer started off by describing her surroundings.

“There’s a five-foot teddy bear sprawled across the kitchen floor in Selena Gomez’s North Hollywood home. “I know, I know,” says Gomez, rolling her eyes, acknowledging that the stuffed animal doesn’t quite blend with the trio of armchairs nestled in the inviting, marble-accented nook. “It was a gift, and at first I thought, ‘This is so ridiculous, I can’t wait until I give it away to another person.’”

We aren’t exactly sure what went down, but this outburst comes at an odd time; Selena had just thanked Billboard on social media for giving her the accolade, and just days before, had given a heartfelt acceptance speech at their Billboard Music Awards 2017. Could she not have read the story before then? Why is she choosing to call Billboard out now? Surely this is all a huge misunderstanding…

Whatever the reason, fans took to Twitter to express their concern for Selena.

This Selenator makes a good point too.

With 130 million followers under her IG belt, we’re sure Selena’s subtle change of privacy won’t affect most people. And that she’ll be back in no time.

Something wicked this way comes. Who’s in the running to become the next Sabrina Spellman?

There’s been much hype about a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot ever since KJ Apa, who plays Archie Andrews on Riverdale, revealed that the iconic character would eventually make her way to their sleepy town. And now that Netflix has stepped in with a 20-episode, two-season, straight-to-series order, that means that Sabrina Spellman is officially coming to the streaming platform.

For the uninitiated (it is a ’90s series after all), Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a sitcom that’s based on the Archie Comics series of the same name. It featured Melissa Joan Hart as Sabrina Spellman, a high school student who unwittingly finds out that she’s a witch on her sixteenth birthday. Sabrina lives with her 500-year-old witchy aunts, Zelda and Hilda, as well as Salem, a talking black cat.

As it turns out, the upcoming version of Sabrina will bear no resemblance to its lighthearted, sitcom predecessor. Based off the Archie Comics graphic novel, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, this reboot is described to be a “dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft.” It will follow in the vein of horror flicks like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, which will find Sabrina “wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

While we’re content with these details for now, we can’t help wondering about the cast members. Melissa Joan Hart left huge shoes to fill, so would Netflix go for a fresh face like they did with Riverdale, or would they cast someone whom the audience is already familiar with? Who will be playing the titular role of Sabrina Spellman? Netflix, if you’re reading this, here are our suggestions!

Dove Cameron

A post shared by ♡DOVE♡ (@dovecameron) on

The 21-year-old Descendants actress has been a solid fan favourite to play Sabrina Spellman – there’s even an official #DoveCameronForSabrinaSpellman hashtag, so you know the fans are serious. Apart from totally looking the witchy part, Dove herself has admitted to being game if the role were ever offered to her, and even went so far to post a photo of Sabrina on IG, complete with a cryptic emoji…

Selena Gomez

A post shared by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

The notion of Selena playing the part of Sabrina isn’t that far-fetched considering the ‘Wolves’ singer once played the iconic role of Alex Russo, the havoc-wrecking teenage wizard on Wizards of Waverly Place. Plus, the singer fuelled fan speculations even further when she rolled up to the 2017 AMAs, randomly rocking a new blonde ‘do. Suspicious or nah?

Chloë Grace Moretz

A post shared by Chloe Grace Moretz (@chloegmoretz) on

According to Internet sleuths, Chloë Moretz’s a strong contender for the role not only because of their similar appearances, but because of their social media connections; most of the Riverdale cast follows the Kick-Ass actress on Twitter and vice-versa. And Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (executive producer on Riverdale and the upcoming Sabrina series) was a co-writer on 2013’s Carrie, which Chloë starred in. Could she have been on his radar all along?

Sabrina Carpenter

Could Sabrina Carpenter also be Sabrina the Teenage Witch? The Girl Meets World actress has shown her acting chops through her role as the tough but flawed Maya, and would be suitable for the darker scenes that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Spellman is sure to bring. Plus, she’s already called Sabrina…

AnnaSophia Robb

A post shared by AnnaSophia Robb (@annasophiarobb) on

With roles in The Bridge to Terabithia, Race to Witch Mountain and The Carrie Diaries, AnnaSophia Robb has a solid resume that might appeal to casting directors. And judging by responses online, she’d be a strong contender if fan casting were a thing.

Who do you think should play Sabrina? Let us know in the comment section!

As if being a singer, composer, budding YouTuber, meme king and social media ninja weren’t enough, DAY6’s Jae is now trying out a new hobby… as a fanfic writer?!

Only six months ago, DAY6’s Jae made headlines when he voluntarily sought out fan-fiction that was written about him. If you’re familiar with the often steamy nature of K-pop-related fanfics, you’d know that it’s something that should stay strictly within the fan base.

To no one’s surprise, Jae emerged from his reading session feeling highly disturbed.

Turns out, he wasn’t done wading through the fanfic world. A few hours ago, Jae randomly picked up on a fan’s ficlet (short fanfic) and added his own twist to it!

The story, which was based on two photos of Jae looking gorgeous in a suit at the MAMA awards, described a “Will they? Won’t they?” situation between him and a mystery lady. The fan kinda left the story hanging, so we imagine Jae took it upon himself to continue it.

Showing off his masterful command of the English language, the singer took matters into “his” own hands by first giving fanfic-Jae the boost of confidence he needed to approach his love interest. And he followed up by having his fanfic-self “valiantly parade towards her, screeching a victorious roar.”

Needless to say, fans were shook.

One also asked a very important question:

While other My Days realised something very important.

Considering the only place Jae appears on the original tweet is through photos (the dude isn’t mentioned or tagged), it’s highly plausible that he’s been lurking around My Day’s social media accounts – which we can imagine is both exhilarating and terrible at the same time.

Here’s hoping Jae will dish out more fanfic writings real soon.

DAY6’s upcoming 18-track album, Moonrise will be dropping on 6 December at 12pm (KST). Stay tuned for more updates!
