September is here and we’re nearing the last semester! Chill and unwind a little before the storm comes with our movie recommendations for this month! From comedy to romance, action and fantasy – we’ve got you covered.

The Secret Life of Pets

Opens: 1 September

Ever wonder what your pets are up to when you leave the house? Lots of adventure apparently! The Secret Life of Pets is about a pampered terrier, Max, and how his life got turned upside down when his owner adopts a big unruly dog, Duke. Long story short, during one of their daily walks, things went for the unexpected turn and led them to lots of adventure – like meeting a rebellious bunny named Snowball.

Cafe Society

Opens: 8 September

Set in the 1930s, a young Bronx native moves to Hollywood where he falls in love with the secretary of his powerful uncle, an agent to the stars. After returning to New York, he is swept up in the vibrant world of high society nightclub life. With the film’s star studded cast and positive reviews from critics, this is one movie you wouldn’t want to miss.

My Love Sinema

Opens: 8 September

Another film about the movie industry but this time the setting’s in 1950’s Singapore. Starring Tosh Zhang and Cheryl Wee, this romance drama tells a story of a starry-eyed 20 year old budding film projectionist, who moves from his kampung to the city. There, he encounters friendship and passion for his work, and most importantly, the love of his life. Operation Chromite

Opens: 15 September

If you’re into war and action, you’d want to catch this fictionalised version of the historical CIA/military intelligence operation”Trudy Jackson”, part of Operation Chromite. American General Douglas MacArthur (Liam Neeson) sends eight members of the Korean Liaison Office, led by a South Korean Navy Lieutenant (Lee Jung-Jae) on a secret mission far behind North Korean lines to carry out Operation “X-ray”. This covert operation must succeed so that MacArthur can launch the daring Incheon Landing Operation. We got chills listening to Liam Neeson.

The Magnificent Seven

Opens: 22 September

A remake of the 1960 classic, Magnificent Seven is about the gathering a band of misfits after they were employed by the desperate townspeople of Rose Creek to protect them from the sadistic industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard). The outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). You can definitely look forward to lots of action and laughter.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

Opens: 29 September

Based on a best-selling novel (which sold out everywhere once the movie was announced), the protagonist Jake discovers clues to a mystery that spans alternate realities and times, he uncovers a secret refuge known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As he learns about the residents and their unusual abilities, Jake realises that safety is an illusion, and danger lurks in the form of powerful, hidden enemies. Jake must figure out who is real, who can be trusted, and who he really is.
