Interview: Brit Band The Vamps Dish On Tour Life And New Album

12 Aug 2019 by Chew Hui Ling

A lot has happened since the Brit lads of The Vamps last performed in Singapore back in 2015. Besides churning out new chart-toppers such as their latest hit ‘All Night’, the pop-rock quartet has also been busy hitting the road for back-to-back tours around the world. This time round, they are bringing their biggest tour yet – aptly named the Four Corners 2019 Tour – to all corners of the world. Their next stop? Singapore.

Ahead of their show on 15 August, we caught up with the boys for a short chat on their touring experience thus far and what to expect at their upcoming set.

Hi guys! It has been a good four years since you’ve last performed in Singapore, what are you looking forward to in your next visit?

Bradley: It’s been a while! We’re so excited to be coming back here after all this time. We have such great memories from the last show and we can’t wait to be reunited with all of you. It’s actually Tris’ birthday when we’re in Singapore so we need ideas of what we can do to celebrate. Give us some recommendations!

(You know what to do, Vampettes!)

So how do you guys usually unwind after finishing a show?

Connor: Nothing too crazy, though! We play lots of FIFA, eat lots of pizza… things like that (laughs).

Besides your own tour, you’ve also supported various acts such as Taylor Swift, The Wanted and Little Mix. How was it like touring with them?

Connor: Yeah, we’ve been really lucky. We’ve supported some amazing people and we’ve also had some great artists on tour with us. It’s fun having other people around; you’re like one big family when you’re on tour so it’s a great bonding experience.

And now, you guys have New Hope Club and HRVY as your supporting acts! How does it feel like to make the transition from tour opener to being the headliner of your very own tour?

Bradley: It’s incredible to think of the journey we’ve been on over the last few years. Not only have we massively developed as artistes, musicians and songwriters, but we’ve also grown up a lot in that time. To be able to say that we were the first band to ever headline the O2 arena in London five years in a row, is insane. It’s all thanks to our fans really; they’ve been on the journey with us and supported us all the way.

You did a total of four tours in support of the Night & Day album. How is each tour different from the other?

Tristan: All of our tours are different. We’re always thinking of ways we can make them exciting, whether it’s through using screens, pyrotechnics, the set list, special guests or the location. For the Four Corners Tour, we wanted to try and visit as many places in the world as possible – those places that we haven’t been to before. Especially Singapore, since we haven’t visited in a long time. It’s great that we’re able to do that!

If you could go to all four corners of the earth with only one other member of The Vamps, who would you pick and why?

Tristan: You can’t ask us that! (Laughs) I wouldn’t be able to choose.

The Day Edition is released last year. Can we expect a new album coming out soon?

Bradley: We’re actually writing a lot at the moment; working on new tracks that we will hopefully share in 2020. We want to go back to our roots, creating upbeat music that people can dance and have fun to!

Lastly, what can fans look forward to at your upcoming concert in Singapore?

Tristan: We’ve released a lot of new music since we were last here so we’re really looking forward to sharing that with you all. And there will be some surprises as well…

Thanks to CK Star Entertainment for the interview opportunity!

Hear that, Vampettes? If you haven’t gotten your tickets to catch The Vamps at their show on 15 August, they’re still up for grabs on SISTIC – grab ’em before it’s gone!
