5 Things You Need To Know About Rising Pop Star Bazzi

8 Jul 2019 by Chew Hui Ling

If you’re someone who lives and breathes the airwaves, you’d probably be familiar with ‘Mine’, that one viral hit that catapulted American singer-songwriter Bazzi to mainstream stardom and birthed a swelling fanbase of loyal supporters (that includes famous names such as BTS and Camila Cabello). You may know him as the voice behind the breakout track, but how much do you really know about the ‘Mine’ hitmaker?

We caught up with the rising pop star via an email interview to find out some fun facts about him!

#1 One word to describe Bazzi?

“Passionate,” says the 20-year-old singer, who grew up learning how to play the guitar at the age of four in the suburbs of Michigan, before packing his bags for Los Angeles to pursue his music career on a whim – and he never looked back. Since finding viral fame with ‘Mine’, Bazzi has hardly been resting on his laurels, but we’re glad to hear that he’s been enjoying the ride. “It’s been a mixture of non-stop work and fun,” he shares. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

#2 His dream collaborator is J. Cole

Despite being relatively new to the music scene, Bazzi has already teamed up with plenty of notable artistes including Marshmello and Camila Cabello. So when asked about his dream collaboration, he didn’t hesitate to give this talented rapper a shoutout. “I would love to work with J. Cole,” he confesses. “His music is so inspiring and he really pushes the culture forward. He also produces his own music like how I do mine.” One thing’s certain though; it’s sure to be a hit.

#3 He’s written for your fav K-pop acts

Besides his own discography, what you might not know is that the versatile singer-songwriter has also penned a handful of bangers for artistes under SM Entertainment. Some of his recent works include ‘The Eve’ for EXO, ‘Move’ for SHINee’s Taemin and ‘We Go Up’ for NCT Dream. He shares, “I enjoy writing K-pop songs, but I write for whichever artiste I’m writing for at the time. When I write a Bazzi track, the intention is totally different.” Regardless, we love all of his tunes anyway!

#4 He just dropped a new bop in April

If his viral earworm ‘Mine’ isn’t enough to get you hooked on his music, his latest pop anthem ‘Paradise’ might just make you an instant Bazzi enthusiast. “I wanted to write a song that would make you feel nostalgic about a time that made you happy,” he explains about the inspiration behind the track. “Paradise doesn’t have to be a place; you can find paradise in a person, an experience, or a song.”

Well, it looks like we found our ‘Paradise’ in Bazzi!

#5 More Bazzi music is in the works

Bazzi has one busy year ahead! In just a couple of days, he’s set to perform his first ever show in Singapore. Apart from touring, the singer reveals that he’s also working hard on new music so fans certainly have much to look forward to.

We’ll leave you with this iconic Bazzi tweet.

Could it be that love is truly dead? Back in February, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo fuelled divorce rumours when Chinese media outlets reported that their marriage had been on the rocks, after the actress was spotted without her wedding ring on various occasions. In recent news that shook the whole industry, the K-drama golden couple has finally made their split official.

Barely two years after tying the knot with Descendants of the Sun co-star Song Hye Kyo in October 2017, Song Joong Ki announced that he has officially filed for divorce on 26 June (Wednesday). The actor expressed his stance in a full statement released through his agency, Blossom Entertainment:

“Hello. This is Song Joong Ki. First, I’d like to apologise for delivering this unfortunate news to the many fans who love and care for me. I have begun the process of filing for divorce from Song Hye Kyo. Rather than denouncing one another and arguing over who is to blame, I hope that the divorce process can be wrapped up amicably.

I ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that it is difficult to discuss the details of my personal life, and I will recover from my current wounds and do my utmost as an actor to repay you through great productions in the future.

Thank you.”

Following Song Joong Ki’s announcement, the actress went ahead with her own statement through her agency as well. According to a representative, they cited “differences in personalities” as the main reason for their divorce. The agency continued, “As the two were unable to overcome their differences, they were forced to come to this decision. We respectfully ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that we cannot confirm any further details out of respect for the two actors’ personal lives. Please refrain from making scandalous posts and speculative comments.”

Even though Song-Song couple has come to an end, we wish both Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo all the best!
