Why did everyone we know freak out even more about Back To The Future Day (the day Marty McFly went back to in the future) aka 21 October 2015 than reasonably expected? Because the Nike self-lacing shoes that Marty wore on his trip to the future, is an actual thing now – we are officially living in the future guys!
Here’s a little backstory for the uninitiated: the Back To The Future trilogy saw Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) transcend time (both past and future) via a time machine built by his scientist friend, Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown (Christopher Lloyd). But what made this 30-year old series so relevant to our modern times, is that in Back To The Future 2, Marty actually time travels to year 2015, in which he saw what the scriptwriters imagined 2015 to be like – and they weren’t too far off. Examples like how cameras would be used everywhere, fingerprint scanning, video chat, hands-free video games, hover boards, – and the crux of our story: self-lacing Nike kicks –, were pretty accurate for a film made back when mobile phones were the size of textbook.
Back in 2011, Nike released their design of the Nike MAG which lacked the self-lacing feature (what’s the point, right?), promising to release the actual shoes by 2015. And they did! On Back To The Future Day, Nike presented the iconic kicks to the “first, most celebrated wearer of the Nike Air MAG, we wanted you to be the first to receive a living pair”.
Cue the waterworks. Even better, the limited edition 2015 Nike MAG will only be available via auction on eBay, where all proceeds will be given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
The 26-years-in-the-making Nike MAGs are estimated to be available next year, so mark your calendars for the most epic release ever! As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. We’d love to hear what you think of the Nike Air MAGs – or of anything else, really.

We’re no strangers to Lady Gaga’s eccentric sense of style, and the injection of high-fashion into her music videos (remember Alexander McQueen’s Plato Atlantis collection in ‘Bad Romance?), but what happens when fashion-designer-cum-rock-star Tom Ford teams up with her to present his new Spring Summer 2016 Womenswear collection?
Tom Ford, who famously injected sexiness into Gucci during his 10-year stint as the Creative Director, has brought new life into spring summer fashion presentations with a video directed by Nick Knight, and starring none other than Lady Gaga. Being a fashion video, there were of course models like Ju Xiao Wen, Mica Arganaraz and Lexi Boling strutting down the “runway” to the tunes of Chic’s ‘I Want Your Love’ performed by Lady Gaga, and showing off Tom Ford’s designs which exuded lived-in-chic transformed into night time glamour.
Even for regular people who hardly stop to ponder about fabrication and silhouette of clothes, it’s hard to ignore that catchy music, dancing models and Lady Gaga, can somehow make fashion more approachable.
The beauty of this video is not only the perfect marriage between fashion and music, but actually a classy and beautiful way for every one to access fashion. Who needs live streams of fashion shows? Give us a bunch of models dancing with Lady Gaga any day!
