It’s always good to support homegrown businesses and what better time to #SupportLocal than during our nation’s birth month? August is littered with tons of markets and fleas that feature Singaporean brands and artists for a month-long celebration – time to bust out the flags and get to shopping!

2 to 4 Aug: Singapasar 2019 Edition

Back for its fourth run, Singapasar reclaims its location at the National Design Centre to showcase a collection by homegrown talents that represent Singapore’s identity and culture, where some 32 brands will set up shop. Happening on the weekend before National Day, forage through the stands and you just might find locally designed/made apparels, accessories and bags suited to your taste, books by local authors and of course, food and beverages.

2 to 4 Aug: All Things Singaporean Bayfront Pop-Up Market

As the attractions at Gardens by the Bay bloom with brand new exhibitions and shows to commemorate our 54th birthday, pop by the Bayfront Marketplace for adorable little trinkets, including metal straw sets, stationery and snacks. Always one to support local social services, the bazaar has also partnered up with various social service organisations to raise funds for their beneficiaries at the pop-up.

3 Aug: Lelong! Lelong! Sustainable Fashion Swap

WeWork partners up with The Fashion Pulpit for a swap flea just in time for National Day. The Lelong! Lelong Sustainable Fashion Swap will also feature local favourite sustainable brands including cruelty-free skincare Re:erth and Want Skincare, independent womenswear label Qlothe and upcycled fashion Muta Wear – all held at the newly revamped Funan mall.

3 Aug: Design Pasar

In support of local artists, craftsmen and designers, Foreign Policy Design Group will be hosting Design Pasar; a pasar malam-style neighbourhood craft market for the creative community. Find homeware and porcelain plates by Supermama, gorgeous bouquets by Floral Magic, and even delectable bites from The Refinery Singapore and Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream and Coffee. Shop to the sounds of live local indie bands and DJs, or stay for the free artistic showcases by Tell Your Children, Ejtee and Old World Charm.

16 to 18 Aug: Carouselland: Small Dreams, Big Possibilities

Themed ‘Small Dreams, Big Possibilities’, this year’s physical manifestation of Carousell’s marketplace stretches across three days with an extensive list of over 300 vendors manning booths offering various knick-knacks in honour of everyday aspirations – including anything from vintage clothes and accessories to retro games and home decor. Fans of BLACKPINK will soon be able to own some next-level merchandise – in the form of Samsung’s new BLACKPINK-themed collection!

It’s safe to say that the collective K-pop community has reached a point where we’d cop anything and everything that BLACKPINK – comprising Jennie, Rose, Jisoo and Lisa – endorses (case in point: this designer dress that Jennie wore in her recent Instagram post sold out in minutes). From beauty brands like Moonshot to sportswear labels like Adidas and even automobile bigwig KIA, the quartet has been snatching up major endorsements deals left, right and centre.

Earlier this year, BLACKPINK delighted Android users everywhere when it was announced that the girl group will be the new global ambassadors for Samsung, starting with the hugely popular Galaxy A series. Teaming up with the tech giant for yet another collaboration, Samsung will be rolling out the BLACKPINK Special Edition set specially for fans of BLACKPINK. Retailing at $1,198, the limited edition bundle consists of a Galaxy A80, Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Buds – all BLACKPINK themed!

Although the hefty price tag might seem a tad too steep, fans will be glad to know that you’ll also be able to score exclusive content along with your purchase. Curated themes, icons and a personalised homescreen photo carousel will be available on the Galaxy A80, complete with a BLACKPINK booting animation that launches upon start up. Oh, and it comes with a set of BLACKPINK character stickers to share with your fellow BLINK pals.

Similarly, the Galaxy Watch Active will also feature the BLACKPINK booting animation, as well as stylish watch faces in line with the black and pink theme.

The Galaxy Buds adopt the same colour scheme as well.

BLACKPINK fans, it looks like your merch collection’s about to get real high-tech!

The BLACKPINK Special Edition will be retailing at $1,198 from 1 August 2019, available at all Samsung Experience Stores and the official Samsung store on, while stocks last.

The National Day long weekend is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate local culture than experiencing a heritage food trail?

As part of the #sginsiders Staycation Package that runs till October, Park Regis Singapore is bringing back their annual trail to take you on a culinary journey along the cultural district of Chinatown. Through a three-hour guided tour held every Saturday, you’ll be able to savour a variety of familiar local delights – from the quintessential breakfast staple of kaya toasts, to traditional desserts that are sure to evoke a sense of nostalgia. It’s time to jio your makan kakis!

First stop: Hong Lim Market and Food Centre

Your day starts off with a humble cup of kopi and a generous spread of kaya jam slathered over thin crisps of golden-brown toast – served with a lot of heart at the Hong Lim Market and Food Centre, which is home to some of the most iconic hawker cuisines in Singapore.

Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff

Before you make your way to the next location, we recommend dabao-ing a couple of freshly-made curry puffs from the famous Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff stall. It’s said that the folks sell more than 4,000 curry puffs per day, so you wouldn’t want to miss out on all that flaky goodness.

Second stop: Tong Heng Delicacies

Tong Heng

At first glance, Tong Heng looks just like any other hipster bakery with its modern interior. But walk through the door and you’ll realise this is the same pastry shop well-loved for its famous diamond-shaped egg tarts. The 83-year-old establishment has since undergone a major revamp in order to cater to the millennial crowd, but its old-school charm is evident in the rows of traditional pastries on display.

Third stop: Mei Heong Yuen Dessert

Mei Heong Yuen Dessert

Venturing further into the heart of Chinatown, we pop by Mei Heong Yuen Dessert to cool off from the scorching heat with some refreshing sweets. Tucked away at a corner shophouse, this unassuming dessert shop has everything from ice kachang to cheng tng, but what we’re here for is its famed traditional pastes – its almond and sesame pastes are to die for.

Fourth stop: Lee Chee Guan

Lim Chee Guan

Who says bak kwa is only a Chinese New Year thing? Although it’s known mostly as a popular CNY snack, we certainly don’t mind having it 365 days a year if it’s from Lim Chee Guan. No stranger to the local foodies, the time-honoured bak kwa maker has been serving up these irresistible slices of sweet and savoury meat since 1938 so you know they’re pretty darn legit.

Park Regis Singapore

After stuffing your face with a local feast, make your way back to Park Regis Singapore to enjoy the rest of the staycation experience. With luxurious rooms, a 25-metre lap pool (with cascading waterfall!) and a well-equipped gym, there’s everything you need for a cosy, laidback stay – it’s like having a weekend getaway without actually going anywhere.

The best part? We like that it’s strategically located in the heart of the CDB, just a stone’s throw away from the Clarke Quay MRT. So if you’re not in the mood for lounging in, make the most of your weekend by exploring the Chinatown area like a tourist, or soaking in the vibrant entertainment scene at Clarke Quay instead. There’s plenty to look, see and do!

The #sginsiders Heritage Food Trail will run from now till October 2019 as part of the #sginsiders Staycation Package ($218+) at Park Regis Singapore.

In celebration of McDonald’s 40th anniversary in Singapore, everyone’s favourite fast food giant has launched the brand new McDonald’s App offering exclusive deals and offers, available for download on App Store and Google Play Store from 22 July.

If you’re wondering if this is the same app as the currently existing McDelivery App, you would be happy to know that they are two entirely different apps. This new app works as an all-in-one comprehensive platform that incorporates familiar features of their website – such as McDelivery, My Feedback, Restaurant Locator and nutritional information – with a personalised experience through its exclusive ‘Deals’ tab.

With each deal redeemed, the McDonald’s App will start to recognise each customer’s preference so new and exciting deals can be introduced according to their buying habits. For example, if you often redeem dessert-related deals, the next time you return to the app, you will see more dessert offers available for you. Plus, once you download the app, new users will automatically receive a one-time welcome deal where you can get a Filet-O-Fish for $1 with any purchase!

These exclusive deals will be available for redemption at all McDonald’s self-ordering kiosks, restaurant front counters and drive-thrus except McDelivery and GrabFood orders, as well as McDonald’s outlets that are within campus sites. To redeem your offer, simply select the deal within the app and click ‘Activate’ to load up the QR code.

You can download the new McDonald’s App from the App Store and the Google Play Store, or simply scan the QR code above!

If you’ve ever been to the Philippines, you’d have probably heard of Maxi Mango.

Just a visit to any of the 43 outlets there, and you’ll easily be greeted with snaking lines of mango-crazed locals who are willing to queue for as long as four whopping hours in the insane heat. But those with a sweet tooth no longer have to fly all the way to the Philippines to get your mango fix – the Davao-based franchise will be opening their very first flagship store right here in Singapore!

Set to open its doors at Capitol Piazza this August, Maxi Mango will be bringing five of their signature soft serves to town: Mango Graham, Mango Keso, Mango Ube, Mango Coconut, as well as the highly-raved Maxi Mango.

Maxi Mango Soft Serve

Unlike other mango desserts, the brand prides itself on using the juiciest, sweetest mangoes to make their soft serves. Plus, these mangoes are specially imported from the Philippines so you can expect to be served only the freshest treats. For an extra hint of indulgence, you can also choose to add extra toppings such as crushed graham crackers, cheese, purple yam or fresh coconut.
