Wonder where all the millennials have been lepaking at? Enter Lepark – this secluded hip haunt is always chock-full of artsy fartsy youngsters, either lounging alfresco at the rooftop enclave while soaking in the eclectic tunes served up during live gigs; or unwinding in big social groups inside its 63,000 square feet space lined with long communal tables. From the kitschy graffiti artworks on the walls to the mod-sin delights on the menu, everything about this spot makes you feel right at home. They dish up a winsome feast of local-inspired tapas bites like Poached Chicken Sushi ($8) and Otah Bomb ($8), but if you’re spoilt for choice, order the Lepark Platter ($18) which comes with a bit of everything so there’s more than enough to go around.

Opening hours: 9am – 11pm (Mon to Sun)

Set up by the folks behind Oz Speciality Coffee, Pacamara takes a minimalist approach of stark white walls, an abundance of wooden tables and plenty of natural light for that perfect Instagram shot – the ideal setting to indulge in lazy brunches with your clique. If good coffee is what you’re after, we recommend starting the AM with a Barista Breakfast ($12), which consists of an espresso, a 5oz white and the brew of the day. Their day menu is just as spectacular, featuring a party of sweet and savoury fare from Sticky Date Pancakes ($17.90) served with salted caramel ice cream, to the morning classic of Crab Benedict ($19.90) topped with two perfectly poached eggs.

Alter Ego

Address: 8 Raffles Avenue #01-13D, Singapore 039802
Opening hours: 11am – 1am (Mon to Thurs), 11am – 2am (Fri), 10am – 2am (Sat), 10am – 1am (Sun)
Tel: 6327 9301

From the good people at A Poke Theory, comes their “recklessly indulgent” split personality by the name of Alter Ego – this industrial-chic establishment’s all about eating clean with their healthy selection of famed poke and smoothie bowls by day; but by nightfall, round up your buddies and indulge dirty over finger-lickingly good grub. Think tater tots coated with spicy jalapeño cheese sauce ($13), pork ribs doused in salted yolk sauce ($16) and pizza fries with an overload of cheesy goodness ($14). The best part? Alter Ego only closes their doors after midnight so all you chit-chatty night owls can hang out till wee hours.

Opening hours: 11.30am – 4pm (Tues to Fri), 10.30am – 6pm (Sat & Sun)

Housed in a colonial bungalow, Noshery by Nosh feels almost like a rural paradise amidst the wilderness: palm leaves outfit the walls, farmhouse furniture fill the area, and there’s even a herb garden where you can bust out your green thumb. Those who prefer dining in the breeze can choose to grab a seat at the patio and indulge in a hearty Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($11) on weekdays, or huddle around the long communal table and feast on their specialty Devil’s Breakfast ($20) on weekends. By night, this idyllic spot transforms into a laidback bar serving kimchi fries and fish tacos, making it the perfect setting for both mid-day catch-ups and late-night wind downs.

Opening hours: 6pm – 12am (Mon to Sat)

For the hipster singletons, Kilo Kallang is your ultimate happy place to escape from all the Valentine’s Day hoopla. A hidden gem tucked away in an old storage warehouse, this off-the-grid hideout is a tough one to find – but the chilled-out ambience, semi open-air vibes and quality fusion cuisine make it worth the trip. Everything from the barren walls to the exposed concrete floors is stripped to the minimum, but if there’s one thing they pull out all the stops for, it’s the food. Setting themselves apart with the most unexpected of flavours, Kilo dishes up palate-pleasing small plates from the likes of Wasabi Tuna Tartare ($28), Beef Tongue Tacos ($24) and Homemade Ricotta Gnocchi ($26). Great for sharing!

Another popular hangout nestled within Prinsep, Curious Palette draws throngs of cafe-hopping fiends for its Kinfolk-esque ambience, spacious seating area and Instagram-worthy fare. They’ve got an awesome menu of all-day brekkie quintessentials like the Curious Breakfast ($19.80) and Curious Croque Madamme ($17.90), along with decadent mains such as the Soft Shell Crab Burger ($19.80) and Espresso Stewed Beef ($19.80). But don’t leave without trying its signature Berry Ricotta Hotcake ($14.90) – you may have to wait up to half an hour for ’em to whip up this baby, but we promise it’s good stuff.

Embark On A Foodie Adventure

Hawker Food In Singapore

Who needs cafe-hopping when you can hawker-hop? Set aside a $30 budget and head out to the various hawker centres (preferably one neither of you have been before) to get your fill of Singapore’s best local grub. You can even do a review of the foods you’ve tried if you don’t find yourself in a food coma afterwards.

Engage In Volunteer Work

Instead of indulging in the same old activities, why not spend some time doing volunteer work instead? It might not be the usual date activity, but it’ll no doubt be more meaningful and memorable. Take your pick from helping out at an animal shelter, spending the day with the elderly or collecting funds for the less fortunate.

Explore A Different Part Of Singapore

Go On Random Bus Rides

If you’ve always wanted to explore a different neighbourhood but unsure where to start, why not try hopping on a random bus and alighting wherever you fancy? From hidden gems to unexplored back alleys, who knows what you might find? Keep your eyes peeled, and your EZ-Links topped up!

Unleash Your Inner Speed Demon

If you or your partner have an insatiable need for speed, or are harbouring dreams of becoming the next great F1 driver, then get behind the wheel and try your hand at Go-Karting! Drive up to 50kph on the 960m course that’s been laid out like a typical race track, Vroom-vroom indeed!

Let Mossimoto bring your imaginations to life with these mini self-sustaining landscapes in a jar. Stop your holiday food baby from setting up permanent residence with these five-minute exercise routines that you can do from the comfort of your own home. Get back in shape the healthy way – all you have to do is just hit ‘play’.

Food Baby
Credit: Giphy

There’s never a workout recommendation list that doesn’t include Cassey aka Blogilates. Behind her peppy persona lies a super intensive routine (we’re not kidding) – good thing it’s only 5 minutes long.

We’re aware that this video isn’t exactly a “five-minute workout” but this video focuses on beginner-level cardio and warm-up stretches to help you get back into the groove after a weekend of binge-eating.

As its name suggests, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) alternates between high-intensity bursts of exercise, followed by an interval of less-intense activity. Don’t be fooled at how easy the video makes it look; there’s a high chance this routine will feel like the longest 5 minutes of your life. You’re supposed to repeat this video twice through for a full workout, but be careful not to overexert yourself!

This routine is meant as a warm up, but for those who aren’t used to working out, we’d say it’s close enough. For those who don’t have weights at home, fill up 2 500ml water bottles and you’ll be good to go.

There’s something so deliciously awkward about following a studio workout that we just had to include it. Apart from celebrity trainer Shaun T dishing fitness advice and putting the audience to work with his good ol’ moves, Dr. Oz keeps it real with hilarious running commentary throughout – reminding us all that exercise should be fun (or as fun as it can be).

Whip your couch potato butts into shape with Joanna Soh, who so thoughtfully designed an entire routine specifically for lazy people. There’s no excuse now ’cause you can literally do the workout from your couch.

What’s your favourite way to workout? Share your tips with us in the comment section below!
