The Singapore Polytechnic Clubbing Experience

1 Oct 2015 by Venetia Sng

The students in Singapore Polytechnic (SP) club and they club hard. (Like two to three times a week). Oh no, we’re not talking about the party-ing kind of club, we’re talking about Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) clubs.

With over 120 different CCA clubs to choose from, you’d be spoilt for choice!

If sports and fitness is your calling, SP has clubs from dynamic Cheerleading and Canoe Polo to the CCAs that are uncommon but growing in popularity – Tchoukball and Krav Maga. Strengthen your defence skills with Wing Chun and Mixed Martial Arts, or go rough and push yourself to the limits with Cycling and Rugby.

Not a sporty person? No worries! Hone your musical skills with the Dee Jays club, Jazz Band or Chinese Orchestra. If you want to be Singapore’s David Copperfield, there’s a Magicians club as well.

How does travelling overseas for CCA activities sound to you? SP’s Symphonic Band performed in Australia and even the dudes from the Dragon Boat team got to show off their stuff in Taiwan!

If there isn’t a club in SP that interests you, gather your friends, write a proposal and be the founding members of a new club!

Why the strong emphasis on CCAs? The provision of a balanced and well-rounded education is part of SP’s mission to educate and train its students to excel in work and in life. Good academic grades are not enough to make you a complete student. CCA is an integral part of the SP journey and help to develop soft skills such as creativity, leadership abilities, teamwork, flexibility, communication skills, resilience and an enterprising spirit.
