Ed Sheeran Totally Came Through For His Singapore Shows

14 Nov 2017 by Bryan Yeong

He came, we saw, he conquered. Ed Sheeran braved an arm fracture recovery to delight his Singapore fans across two nights of his sell-out Divide Tour.

Sheerios in Singapore were left in nail-biting anticipation just weeks ago, upon news of his tour cancellation and postponement of several dates following a cycling accident that caused him to have both hands in casts. To our relief, Ed pulled through for his Singapore dates, marking the first Asian stops on his return to the road since the mini-hiatus, performing packed double shows at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last weekend to a total crowd of 20,000 – four times more than the size he pulled the last time he played here in 2015.

Not having his hands functioning at 100% would certainly mark a significant setback for any of Ed’s live shows, considering a major aspect of his prowess lies in his guitar-strumming melodies. Equipped with just a loop pedal and video backdrops on symmetrical LED screens, the maestro commanded the stage with his solo presence through newer hits ‘Dive’ and ‘Galway Girl’, while also not neglecting earlier fan favourites like ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and ‘Bloodstream’.

Ed kept to spontaneous moments of banter with the audience, encouraging everyone to stand up and dance however they’d like, and jokingly singled out dads and boyfriends who accompanied their female companions that might be bored. His cheeky British humour evidently shone through, and balanced out quieter, emotional tunes such as ‘Happier’ and ‘How Would You Feel’  –  both of which got the fervent crowd either in tears, hugging their partners, or swaying arms proudly in the air. It’s a testament to his penchant for producing romantic love songs that hits all the right spots, and coupled with his boy-next-door charm, prove to to be an irresistible combo.

It seems it’ll be a couple of years before he heads back for a concert following his next album, but if Saturday was any indication, there’s clearly no signs of stopping his propelling momentum as one of today’s biggest and brightest stars.
