Keeping Up With The Headlines You Might've Missed

6 Oct 2017 by Bryan Yeong

From the Kardashian clan due to expand to new venues to catch your blockbusters, we bring you the latest headlines (you might’ve missed) to keep you in the loop.

The Kardashian family sure has a way of staying in the public eye – it’s no wonder that they recently celebrated their 10th year anniversary of their hit reality series Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kylie Jenner first made the headlines when news of her rumoured pregnancy broke. In between finding extended success with her Kylie Cosmetics line and TV show Life of Kylie, it’ll be interesting to see how the young beauty mogul will juggle her empire and motherhood. And what’s better than one pregnancy announcement? How ’bout two! Khloe Kardashian has also been revealed to be expecting child with boyfriend Tristan Thompson, due early 2018, a wish she has expressed for many years. Not forgetting that Kim also has a surrogate baby on the way, which makes a grand total of three new Kardashian members to add to the family next year! We’re calling it – Keeping Up With The Kardashians: The Next Generation will premiere in 2030.

Screen Kings

Rejoice Eastsiders! If you haven’t already heard, there’s a spankin’ new Golden Village at the reopened SingPost Centre Mall to check out, which even brags of a laser projection for sharper picture quality.  It comes just days after Cathay Cinema also announced a new screening complex at Parkway Parade, giving us more options for those impromptu movie plans.

Bad Rep For Influencers

The words ‘exposé’ and ‘Xiaxue’ are synonymous with each other, with the latter ruthlessly revealing embarrassing information of parties who’ve attempted to take her down previously. And on an otherwise typical Sunday recently, Xiaxue dropped a bombshell of a video, where she took to the almighty Internet to analyse which Singaporean bloggers and influencers ‘bought’ followers on Instagram via an analytical online app SocialBlade to surprising results. Watch for yourself, and guess what we’ve been randomly doing since then?

YouTube comedian Hirzi also shared his sensible insights on the influencer scene and gave his sound advice on the whole matter, which you can view below.

Gone Cha No More

For ardent Gong Cha fans, you have a reason to stop patronising other bubble tea brands come December, because the familiar taste we all know and love is back soon! Judging from the decals pasted at the new SingPost Centre Mall outlet undergoing renovation, it also indicates that it’ll be Singapore’s flagship store, meaning there’ll be more islandwide outlets to look forward to. We can’t wait to sneak in our milk teas into the new GV cinema to catch a flick!

The iOS Mess

Think twice before you upgrade your iOS for your phone. Apple users have took to social media to voice their displeasure at the smartphone’s latest system upgrade, which causes one or more of the following: faster battery drain, app crashes, frozen lock screen and weak Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. A sly marketing ploy to get users to buy the new models iPhone 8 and iPhone X? Or sheer coincidence? You be the judge.

Amos Yee Granted Asylum

Notorious rebel Amos Yee’s patriotism (or lack thereof) is taking a further drift from Singapore, all the way to the USA. Despite being incarcerated for 8 months, it seems jail time has only made him even more headstrong on his pro-free speech views. The 18-year-old stepped out in Chicago recently a free man, with a firm goal in mind: “The plan is to make more and more videos. I came here to escape the horrible anti-free speech laws in Singapore. Now I can get back to work, get back to my life”, he told The Straits Times.
