After the overwhelming success of Produce 101, Mnet announced that they’ll be teaming up with Tencent for the official Chinese version of the popular survival programme known as 创造101. And they certainly wasted no time in pulling out all the stops for the show – just looking at the star-studded panel of mentors, we know it’s going to be a hit.
Meet the mentors
Not to be confused with iQIYI’s Idol Producer – which features prominent K-pop stars such as EXO’s Lay, GOT7’s Jackson and PRSTIN’s Kyulkyung – the brand new Produce 101 China boasts an ensemble of judges that’s just as impressive.
In an awkward twist of fate, former EXO member Tao is revealed to be the main host of the show. S.H.E’s Ella and Chinese pop singer Jason Zhang will be appearing as vocal trainers, Chinese singer-songwriter Tiger Hu will be in charge of composing, while Mandopop dance king Show Luo and UNIQ’s Wang Yi Bo will be taking on the roles of dance instructors.
The next I.O.I in the making?
While Idol Producer will be debuting an all-male lineup, Produce 101 China is all about the girls. The first season of Produce 101 witnessed the birth of nation’s girl group I.O.I, and only time will tell if the Chinese trainees will be able to do their seniors proud. Notable contestants include WJSN’s Mei Qi and Xuan Yi, Taiwanese girl group A’N’D’s Lucia and Sunnee, and more. We can’t wait to see who will be picked to be the first ever centre for the new ‘Pick Me’!
Filming has already commenced on 22 March and trainees have started moving into the dorms on 25 March. The series is set to premiere on 21 April.
