Disney fanatics are in for a cinematic treat! From highly-anticipated sequels to live-action adaptions of beloved animated movies, here are eight new and upcoming Disney flicks to watch out for throughout the remaining year and into the early half of 2020.

Picking up several years after the first Maleficent movie, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil continues to bring viewers deeper into the complicated, love-hate relationship between the powerful horned fairy (played by Angelina Jolie) and now Queen-in-making, Princess Aurora (played by Elle Fanning).

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is now showing in theatres.

Following the launch of American video streaming service Disney+, a series of movies will be made available on the platform, including the live-action remake of Disney’s animated classic, Lady and the Tramp. This adaptation retells the heartwarming romance between the pampered cocker spaniel Lady, and a tough stray mutt with reversible charms Tramp.

Lady and the Tramp premieres 12 November 2019 on Disney+.

It’s that time of the year! Get into the merry spirit with Disney+’s lighthearted holiday comedy, Noelle. Follow Santa’s daughter, Noelle (played by Anna Kendrick), as she embarks on a mission to save Christmas.

Noelle premieres 12 November 2019 on Disney+.

Everyone’s favourite Snow Queen is back! This time, Elsa’s magical powers are put to the test as she goes on a chilling adventure to discover her icy roots and save her kingdom. Watch as Elsa overcomes the odds with the help of her beloved sister Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven in this long-awaited sequel.

Frozen 2 premieres 21 November 2019.

The highly-anticipated final film of the Star Wars Trilogy is here at last. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will document a few significant final face-offs as the Resistance meets the First Order, and the ancient conflict between Jedi and Sith reaches a decisive climax.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres 19 December 2019.

Greeting us early next year is yet another adrenaline-pumping crime movie, The King’s Man – which marks the prequel to the Kingsman series. It’s a lone fight for the Duke of Oxford (played by Ralph Fiennes) as he faces against history’s most notorious tyrants and criminal masterminds to save humanity. This period spy film’s thrilling action is bound to keep us on the edge of our seats!

The King’s Man premieres 13 February 2020.

Monster’s University’s Dan Scanlon is back with a new animation film, Onward. It tells a heartening tale of two elf brothers’ – Ian and Barley Lightfoot (featuring the voices of Tom Holland and Chris Patt) – journey to chase the little magic that is left in this world.

Onward premieres 5 March 2020.

Last but definitely not least, we have the live-action adaption of Disney’s animated film, Mulan. We’re all familiar with the inspiring story of Hua Mulan as she cross-dresses as man to take her father’s place in the Imperial Army – it’s an epic tale of honour, courage and love, bolstered by a celebrated international cast such as Liu Yifei (as Mulan) and Donnie Yen (as Commander Tung).

Mulan premieres 26 March 2020.
