LEARN: Brush Calligraphy with Craft Varies
As we immerse ourselves in the digital age, it’s important to keep traditional crafts close to the heart. I’ll be picking up brush calligraphy with Clarence Wee of Craft Varies in hopes of improving my penmanship and hopefully pen a few quotes down as a nice handmade gift for my loved ones!
SHOP: Pretty little things
For those who love lace bralettes, you’d be happy to know that a new lingerie label has blossomed on our lovely little island. Naked & Unbound has launched earlier this month with a capsule collection of five designs. With a price tag between $45 to $69, we think it ain’t so bad considering how brands like Agent Provocateur expects you to shell out a couple hundreds for them.
BUY: Moonshot cosmetics
If you think that YG Entertainment Group’s business is in producing celebrities, you’ll be quite wrong – the Korean entertainment company also dabbles in the beauty industry and their brand, Moonshot will be having a launch event at Sephora ION Orchard this Saturday (26th Sep) from 3pm to 5pm. Produced for the chic and stylish, Moonshot products offer bold colours that are long-wearing and easy to use. Head on down to Sephora ION Orchard to test out the products for yourself!

EAT: Home’s Favourite Durian Mooncake
It’s the time of the year again and I’m sure you are already stuffing your face with yummy mooncakes! I mean, who cares about the amount of calories one mooncake contains right? Mid-Autumn Festival only happens once a year and you can always work off the calories later. But it doesn’t mean that you waste those calories on subpar mooncakes! If you’re a fan of durian, Home’s Favourite Snowskin Durian Mooncakes are a must-eat! Made from 100% durian flesh and super soft snowskin, they have a huge range of durians, from Mao Shan Wang ($80 for 4 pieces) to D24 ($60 for 4 pieces). My favourite has to be the XO ($80 for 4 pieces) cause of the slight bitterness to the flesh.

GO TO: Wan Qing Yuen – Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall
If you want to avoid the crowd (like me) to 赏月 (view the full moon), drink some tea and have some mooncake, why not head down to Wan Qing Yuen – Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. On top of the vibrant display of lantern sculptures, they have free activities like lantern making workshops and snowskin mooncake workshop!

WATCH: Hotel Transylvania 2
Count Dracula is back and he’s a grand-daddy in Hotel Transylvania 2! Ever since his daughter Mavis and Johnny (the human) got married and had a kid, the monster-only hotel is now open to human guests and things can’t get any better for the monster pack. But Drac is worried that his super adorable grandson Dennis isn’t showing signs of being a vampire and sets to put him through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. That’s not all! Drac’s old school father Vlad is about to pay the family a visit at the hotel and guess who wouldn’t be too happy about the human guests and a not-pure-blood grandson? Argh! I can’t wait to catch the movie this weekend already!

SHOP: NLB Library Book Sale (26 – 27 Sept)
There’s honestly nothing much better than curling up with a good book and a warm cuppa on the weekends. And what better way to increase your personal library than attending book fairs where you’ll snag good titles at cheap prices? If you don’t mind used library books, those will be for sale at only $1-$2! Plus, you’ll be able to purchase as many books as you can carry ‘cos there’s no limit to how many you can buy. Awesome or what?
The NLB Library Book Sale will be held at Singapore Expo Hall 6B, from 9am to 7pm. You can pay via NETS, Cashcard or Cash only.
WATCH: YouTube
I’ve mentioned this before, but even though I’m on my phone 24/7, I’m often too busy to keep track of the latest shows/tunes/videos etc. Thus, I’m devoting myself to a YouTube-only weekend, where I’ll be catching up on the vids I’ve missed over the weeks. You guys will probably recognise a couple of YouTubers on my list − Ryan Higa, Lilly Singh, Ingrid Nilsen, Jenna Marbles, Night Owl Cinematics, Munah & Hirzi, Zoella, Wengie (and the list goes on and on and on…). I’m always on the lookout for interesting channels, so comment below to introduce your favourite YouTubers, or to simply spread the love!
WATCH: The Intern
The Intern stars Robert De Niro as Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old retired businessman, and Anne Hathaway as Jules Ostin, the young, career-driven founder and CEO of a fashion-based e-commerce company. Unaccustomed to retirement, De Niro’s character decides to start over as an intern at Hathaway’s company as part of a senior outreach programme. Despite their age-gap, both Ben Whittaker and Jules Ostin starts to bond and forms an unlikely, but heart-warming friendship. The trailer tells all: this movie is a definite must-watch!

SIP: Dapper Coffee
Hui Ling’s coffee adventures continues: If you’re still not legal for some booze-fueled shenanigans at Spiffy Dapper, its PG-13 counterpart Dapper Coffee’s a pretty awesome alternative. Located at the second storey, this dimly-lit space is a bar by night and a romantic java sippin’ spot by day. These guys pride themselves on experimental concoctions, particularly their signature cold brew which is served in a wine glass and creates glittery golden swirls when poured. Definitely makes you feel like royalty.
Dapper Coffee is located at 73 Amoy Street, Singapore 069892.
ATTEND: Art After Dark
In light of Gillman Barracks’ third anniversary celebrations, the ever-so-popular Art After Dark is back with a smorgasbord of blockbuster exhibitions, live music acts and heritage tours. Look forward to F&B pop-ups such as an Army Kinema Market where local designers and retailers like Supermama and Basheer Graphic Books showcase their products, as well as SoukOut, where you can nosh on middle eastern street food and party with DJ collective Darker Than Wax till late.
Art After Dark is happening on 25 September 7pm to 11pm at Gillman Barracks (9 Lock Road, Singapore 108793).
